It Is What It Is

I have taxes on my mind. It's time to, once again, pay the "registration fee" on my car. Come on, why don't they just call it what it is? It's a tax -- in addition to the personal property taxes and all the sales taxes I pay for gas, oil, yada-yada. I registered the car five years ago when I bought it, and it hasn't changed its identity since. It hasn't changed its address, hasn't taken an alias, hasn't had sex change surgery, hasn't become a sex offender. Why, then, would it be necessary to reregister it every year? It's a tax -- to the tune of $65.00 a year, less $1.00 if I register pay my tax via Internet, plus $5.00 should I have the audacity to physically set foot inside the DMV to pay my tax to (and apparently waste the time of) an employee whose salary my taxes pay. One can call a thing anything one pleases if it pleases one to try to sweeten the sound of some particular word. I can call myself a leftist pigeon-toed duckbilled platypus if I want. Doesn't make me one. Calling taxes registration fees doesn't relieve them (or us) of being taxes, either. How dumb do they think we are? Oh, never mind; maybe some of us -- perhaps too many -- are.

These are pretty dumb, too. But, unlike taxes, there's something we can do about them. Today is open season on blasfomys. Blast away!

Ah, Serena, don't get me started on nuisance taxes...let me just stick with the blasfomys:

the rath of god - The Chosen Bacon.

realitives - the family you have, as opposed to the family you wish you had.

goddies for the kids - religiously inspired toys, like Baby's First Infidel Burner.

amagined - the dream of the medical lobby?

anymosity - generalized hatred.

unchalenged - the opponent got the l out before the fight.

frivalous lawsuits - sorry...

surivor - Tom Cruise's daughter comes out of the accident unscathed.

disribed - Adam, just before Eve.

evnening - sorry, no idea on this one...

Thanks for the mental break!

Sounds like you're in the wrong state. Ours is $58 for two years. Plus we don't have a sales tax for anything and we don't even have to get out in the rain or snow and pump our gas.

Goddies for the kids-Faith based candy with scripture from Revelations to remind the kid they will go to hell for eating candy on Sunday.
Wait, that probably does exist.

disribed- I like bilbo's best but I will include this thought:

If man was made from dust and returns to dust and woman was made from man's rib, how come women don't return to a rib?

Nuisance taxes. That's a good term for it, Bilbo. I LOVE what you did with the words. Made me laugh. I needed that.:-)

How much, Puggy? Get in line.:)

I know, Galen. I have to pay it if I want to ride -- but that doesn't mean I can't cuss about it. I paced myself. I'm still worn out. Now what?:)

Oregon sounds like the place to be, VE. There's a lot to be said for no sales tax -- and cheaper car "registration.":)

I think you've hit the nail on the head with your "goddies," Roxan.:-)

Thank God we have people here who we can pay a minimal sum to get all that work done for us! We don't have to run around paying our bills & taxes, India has a lot of Human Resource willing to do that for you!

the rath of god : The carriage on which god travels ( In Hindi rath means a royal carriage )

realitives : The reality that the relatives actually are

goddies for the kids : Kids are turning into atheists

amagined : amassed and then made to get drunk on gin

anymosity : is there any more moss anywhere else?

unchalenged : diseased ( removed from being hale)

frivalous lawsuits : Frilly suits worn by the lawyers

surivor : one who falls into a surrealist reverie

disribed : Empty out the ribs of a pig before stuffing it for roasting
( see Jenn's blog! I am grossed out!)

evnening : an utterly tiresome evening where you falter on everything.

Serena, you have been tagged at my blog!

Sore subject Serena (try saying that after a glass of wine), its the motorist and the hard- working community that get slaughtered here in the UK. If you sit on your backside and steal other folks cars, you don't have a tax problem. I really ought to go now, I can feel my blood-pressure rising....

Congrats on an excellent defining job, Mona. And I'll check out your tag. Thanks.:)

I think I could use a glass of wine, Queenie.:)

I think it was Alfred E. Neumann that once opined, "taxation without repression is poobah", or some such.

Our new governor -- a former DA and Democrat -- is trying to raise all sorts of taxes via the ballot initiative this year. If the voters are dumb enough to go along, my car "registration" fee goes up $100 a year. And that's just one of several.

It taxes me just to think about it...DOH...here's come the bill for having thought about it!!!

Well, I just hope the Grand Poobah of Taxation doesn't come after me.:)
