Wednesday's Child Says: What?!

Make your own clipart like this @ www.TXT2PIC.com
I don't know about you, but my newspaper has had me yelling "What?!" all week.

Item: Three 8- and 9-year-old boys in Georgia are charged with kidnapping and raping an 11-year-old girl. What?!

Item: There are about a dozen students and one teacher ill with some mysterious neurological disease at a local high school. Symptoms include uncontrollable twitching. The official report on the etiology of the illness is now in: psychosomatic, caused by stress. Or "mass psychogenic illness" as they're calling it. That's an easy category into which to pitch it and get rid of it, but ... I don't think so.

Item: Drew Peterson. Disgraced Illinois cop. Fourth wife, Stacy (not to be confused with Laci), has been missing since late October. She's 23. He's 53. The body of his third wife was exhumed last week for autopsy. The pathologist believes the manner of death should be changed from accident to homicide. Peterson, meanwhile, hasn't done himself any favors with all his media exposure. His attitude, his affect, and his cocky arrogance all point to some pretty disturbing theories about what happened to wife #4. Pssst -- what the hell is wrong with men named Peterson? Scott and Michael, both convicted wife-murderers. And now this one?

Perhaps I should just put the paper down and find a Meme to play with.

A Food Meme seems appropriate today, don't you think? You may answer the questions in the Comments section or on your own blog.

1. Name a food you hated as a child but now enjoy.
Broccoli. And Brussels sprouts. Oh, and cheesecake! I wouldn't touch it when I was a kid. Maybe there was something wrong with me.

2. If you had to give up one of your favorite foods, forever, what would it be and why?
I seriously think I could give up chocolate before such delicacies as shrimp, French fries, and mashed potatoes.

3. What is a food that seems as though it should be healthy but really isn't, and do you eat it? If you do, why?
Cheese Doodles. You'd think something with "Cheese" in its name (in great big letters) would be healthy, but we all know the Doodles aren't a bit healthy. Cheesecake, now -- that's health food.

4. If you were an item of food, personified, what would you be and why?
Ice cream, because I can be as cold as I need to be but will melt when warmed up.

5. Other than tomatoes and pies, what would be a fun food to throw at someone? And ... why would throwing it be so hilarious?
I'm not in the habit of throwing food, but I suppose it might be mildly amusing to throw squishy rotten pumpkins at someone I really, really didn't like.

To today's Words Gone Wild, TWISTED LINGUISTICS also says, "What?!"

eveil - Gauzy headdress worn by Internet brides.

encuraged - Anger incurred over a mad dog.

Stratovarius - A violin from Big Lots.

He looks quilty - Um, he's too well padded?

grammar erros - Messed up, illiterate Erotica.

You guys define these. Please!

Broccoli and bean sprouts.

2. If you had to give up one of your favorite foods, forever, what would it be and why? Hot peppers, because now they burn, not mentioning where.

3. What is a food that seems as though it should be healthy but really isn't, and do you eat it? If you do, why? Cheese, I love it, but it's pretty high in cholesterol.

4. If you were an item of food, personified, what would you be and why? Probably something like poi,
it's poison raw, and I think they say its pretty tasteless.

5. Other than tomatoes and pies, what would be a fun food to throw at someone? And ... why would throwing it be so hilarious?
Chocolate sauce, because of what it would look like.

charachter - slightly burnt ink blot test.

Broccoli.

2. If you had to give up one of your favorite foods, forever, what would it be and why?
I have very few favorite foods and I'm NOT giving them up...so there!

3. What is a food that seems as though it should be healthy but really isn't, and do you eat it? If you do, why?
Man these are tough, were you up all night with insomnia?

4. If you were an item of food, personified, what would you be and why?
My 2 favorite foods, potatoes and pizza so I guess it would be a potato pizza. Believe it or not there is a place around here in Michigan that makes them and I've heard they are to die for.

5. Other than tomatoes and pies, what would be a fun food to throw at someone? And ... why would throwing it be so hilarious?
rotten pumpkins at politicans..don't know why. I wanted to throw something at them and that's the first thing I thought of.

Good definitions, Kan. And thanks for the info on Tran, Bulgaria. Now the word makes sense. I hope those detainees get repatriated soon.:) Mama SJ wishes you a happy Thanksgiving, too.

Looks like none of us liked broccoli as children. LOL.

I don't do hot peppers, either, Charles. I'm not sure if it's for the same reason. I just ... don't do them. Sorry, dude, I just can't see you as poi. Thrown chocolate sauce. Hmmmm. I like your definitions, too. Just think what would happen to a sociopath administered the charachter test.:-)

It's okay, TC. You don't have to give up any of your favorite foods. Re #3, that was a hard question. Luckily, I didn't have to make up the questions because, luckily, there are Meme sites.:) Potato pizza? Really? I MUST hear more about that.

Anything with mayonnaise. Except potato salad and tuna. Bleech!!
And strangely, I liked fish when I was little and now cannot stand it.

2. If you had to give up one of your favorite foods, forever, what would it be and why? I also would give up chocolate over almost anything else--like pizza and ice cream.

3. What is a food that seems as though it should be healthy but really isn't, and do you eat it? If you do, why?
Rice cakes. Cause they are whole grain and all, but really they are just carbs and sugar. :(

4. If you were an item of food, personified, what would you be and why?

Cake, cause it's so comforting. :)

5. Other than tomatoes and pies, what would be a fun food to throw at someone? And ... why would throwing it be so hilarious?

I'm not a food thrower either, but spaghetti!! Cause it'd be all dripping from their hair and stuff.

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Mayonnaise good stuff, Snow. I'm not crazy about tuna salad, but I love potato salad. There's a certain symmetry to #2. I'm glad you, too, get the Zen of it.:) You know, I'd actually eat rice cakes if I could find some. I haven't seen any in the stores around here in years. Love your #4 and #5. Happy Thanksgiving to you, too!

/t., you naughty boy. So THAT'S what's under the tartan.:-) Happy Thanksgiving to you!

The story that screwed me up today was the Saudi woman who was gang-raped by seven men, then sentenced by the courts to 90 lashes for being with a man to whom she was not related. When she appealed, her punishment was increased to 200 lashes and six months in jail.

One version.

A bit of everything mixed together, warming on a cold day, yet yuck! with a lardy top when its cold.
