Tuesday: Tongue Twisters

Make your own clipart like this @ www.TXT2PIC.com
I don't like to get stuck in a rut, and I'm sure you don't, either. Therefore, even though we all know it's Tuesday, today let's do ... poetry. Your assignment, should you choose to accept it, is to write a haiku on the subject of ... late for work. And I am late for work today. The spouse moved my car this morning and then left on an errand. He has a nasty habit of yanking the emergency brake up so far that I can't release it. So here I sit, stuck, waiting for him to come back and release the darn parking brake so I can go to work. Grrrrrr.

We've had cold here, and we've had frost, but today it's going to be close to 70. Does that make it Indian Summer?

Speaking of tongue twisters, let's try wrapping our tongues around today's Words Gone Wild.

He studders

This is a real pain
Counting all my syllables
Now I'm late for work!

Fixing my hair seems
Like so much fun when work waits.
Uh-oh, late again.

Paperwork stacked high,
Tension rising...Oh, let's see
What Sherry posted!

Running late, and no
Coffee to drink. What a bad
Day this has become.

Work will still be there
No matter how late I am.
Gotta pay the bills.

G-man, you made me giggle and sputter and spit coffee all over my work computer. You really adore haiku writing, don't you? Good! You're good at it. Cheap thrills? You mean like sailors and nylons and Hershey bars? Oh, I hope so!:-)

You're welcome about the zapping of WordVer. To be honest, I forgot I had it on 'til just the other day. I had it enabled for the spammers' benefit, but it IS very annoying.

Well, VE, at least you weren't late for the same dumb reason I was. You had a good excuse.:)

Greeny, darling, you SO excel at haiku. Those are simply brilliant. Your stories and essays and poetry are literally BEGGING for a good publisher. One of these days, you're going to decide to go for it. Yess!!

If I had a job,
I'd not be late to get there,
to earn my money now.

Morning passed with you.

Spare and clean, Charles -- the way haiku should be constructed. Good job.:)

Scary, your haikus STOMP. Seriously, they are très elegant. Serena is most pleased, Grasshopper.:)

My partner has seriously thought about calling in a medical team as my English tongue is making rude remarks, as I try and twist your Haiku's, but Japan is closer to you over the pond. How about a bit of a Shakespeare sonnet:

Sonnet 130 My mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun.

My mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun;
Coral is far more red than her lips' red;
If snow be white, why then her breasts are dun;
If hairs be wires, black wires grow on her head.
I have seen roses damask'd, red and white,
But no such roses see I in her cheeks;
And in some perfumes is there more delight
Than in the breath that from my mistress reeks.
I love to hear her speak, yet well I know
That music hath a far more pleasing sound;
I grant I never saw a goddess go;
My mistress, when she walks, treads on the ground:
And yet, by heaven, I think my love as rare
As any she belied with false compare.

Still twists the tongue don't you think??

That certainly does twist the tongue, Queenie.:)

Pink! Your verse is sheer perfection. 'Tis truly a thing of beauty.

Work. Who needs the mess?
Underpaid and overworked.
Snooze button again.

hungry dogs wrecked cars missed buses
Work can wait for these.

Excellent job, Corn Dog! I really like those.:)

I've said it before and I'll say it again -- you guys are SO talented.

"He has a nasty habit of yanking the emergency brake up so far that I can't release it." My exboyfriend did that! No matter how much I complained, the next time I drove my car after he'd been behind the wheel, I had to use both hands to pull up slightly on the lever and push in the little release button to get it to go down. I would gladly do it again if we could work things out. No haiku from me. Sorry.

Thank you, Republican and Smarmoofus.:)
