Falling Into Place

As I mentioned yesterday, there's a distinct fall-like nip in the air here. It came on so suddenly that it practically smacked me in the head with the realization that I haven't yet shopped for any new fall clothes. I don't need a lot, mainly because I already have plenty of perfectly good clothes. I do, however, need ... sweaters. I've taken stock of my last-year's sweaters and pronounce them boring. I love a good supply of cute sweaters because I wear them with everything and live in them all Winter. I also want a new leather bomber jacket because -- yeah, you guessed it -- my old leather jacket is boring. I don't need any more boots and God knows I don't need more shoes. I really wouldn't mind throwing out some old shoes and getting some cute new ones, though.

I'm also in the mood to do some sprucing up around the house. I don't really Spring clean. Instead, I Fall clean. Fall is when I throw out the icky stuff, clean out closets and drawers, and generally adjust my domestic Feng Shui. Cluttered surroundings, after all, don't do much to improve a cluttered mind.

The crisp chill in the air reminds me that I need to start giving some thought to ... Christmas shopping. Can you believe it?! I waited way too late to get started last year, perhaps because it stayed so warm so long. I'd prefer to get a head start this year and at least have some idea about a "list." And then there will be the logistics to work out. Who's coming into town? Should I stay in town? It can all be either très exciting or very daunting. I always prefer it when it's the former.

Of course, I realize it's way premature to be going full-tilt boogie into Fall mode. It will certainly get hot again before real Fall and Winter. In fact, it'll be back to near 90 by the weekend. This little taste of Fall feels good, though. It stimulates the senses and provides some impetus to take care of things that have been put off all Summer. I know you know that three or four months from now I'll be complaining about freezing to death. We won't talk about that.

I can tell that the Autumnal Juices are flowing!
You would look so explosive in a new Bomber Jacket..
Sweaters?
They should be so lucky as to be so close to your petite and awesome torso!
Shoes?

I'm so glad that the Fall is so inspiring to you, and your wardrobe..
We all need a little inspiration...xoxoxox

I feel the same way in the fall. I finally started antibiotics for my cough last Saturday, and by Sunday afternoon I felt so great that I started to redo our bathroom. I'll post photos some day soon.

I belong in the UK, it seems:

Blimey!
A little proper, a little saucy.
You're so witty and charming...
No one notices your curry breath

...That actually seems about right, for once. Now to wait and see where Roxan belongs...

Have a great day!

"Fall clothes"? You buy clothes in case you fall? Are they padded? Do they increase your sense of balance? I do not understand this concept. Is there some other meaning for "fall" outside of "falling", "fallen", and "fell?" This is going to haunt me all day now. Am I properly protected against falling or do I need some "fall clothes" as well?

I'm glad you're heading north for some R&R, Leelee. Give me a shout if you pass through VA. I'm not sure about PA & NJ, but it won't feel much like fall here next week. It'll be 80s again.:)

Dang Greeny, I want me some of those energy-producing antibiotics. I have a bathroom that desperately needs redoing. Seriously, I'm delighted you're feeling better.:)

Ah, yes, Ted -- fall food. I love stuff like fried apples with cinnamon, brats, chilli, pumpkin pie, etc., in the fall. Of course, it tastes better if I'm wearing something new.:-)

Kanrei, I refuse to discuss the secrets of padded garments outside of a Victoria's Secret store. We have this strange anomaly in my country whereby the heat of summer gives way to crisper, cooler air -- which we call fall. We all put on new clothes to stand around and watch colored leaves fall off trees. Such clothing may or may not be padded, depending upon how well balanced the person wearing it is. Since you live in the Land of Perpetual Summer, padding and Falling Sickness aren't things you need to worry about.:-)

It's not always summer here. We get two weeks of Winter in the Spring.

The leaves change colors? What are you on and why are you not sharing with those of us down south? You give us your snowbirds yet keep your drugs? I call foul and fowl.

Serena said...

Oh, well, yeah -- those 2 weeks of Winter would make all the difference. Look closely and you'll see fall fowl among the snowbirds. Ooooo, the colors. No foul!

I like this fall cleaning idea.:)

It's a good idea in theory, TC. Dredging up the energy to actually do something about it is where I run into problems.:-)

Hey Serena!

I too, was NOT READY for fall!! Although I have plenty of winter clothes, but my poor chilis have grown out of everything from last season! (How dare them grow when I wasn't looking!)
Plus, I felt like we didn't even have a chance to ease into it!

I say treat yourself to some new non-boring clothes (and a pair of shoes or two ;)) and enjoy!! :)

Galen can pick you the best open toed shoes a gu... a girl can have. lol

I get fall cleaning, I pick up somethings I haven't touched in a while and the dust falls off, fall cleaning!

I'm amazed to hear you eat brats, SJ, but I know of at least one blogger with a couple of nephews she'd like to feed you.

If women would learn from the trees, and shed their plumage in the fall, I could rake in the action.

Serena said...

Chilis have a way of doing that, Snow. They sneak these growth spurts on unsuspecting moms and, voila, they get whole new wardrobes. Never fear, I'm on the lookout for some cute and non-boring stuff. LOL.:)

Galen does have good taste in shoes, Charles. LOL. Hey, I'm pretty good at that method of fall cleaning, too. It works like a charm. I don't eat brats all that often. They give me heartburn -- and they cry when you bite into them.:-)

I'll speak to the women I know, Puggy, and see what can be done about that. All women crave a talented gardener, I do know that.:-)

I know the feeling, SJ.

It's cold here up in Kentucky, but that doesn't stop us from barbecuing, fishing, and hiking.

Nice to read you, Serena. :)

Trée said...

SJ, I think you need to pull out the canary yellow sweater. I think it would go great with pink nails neither too long nor too short. :-)

Camille Alexa said...

A pronunciation of boring! Worse than death, to a sweater.

Serena said...

Hi, Chad, and welcome. It's always nice to see a new face around here. As long as it's not too cold to barbecue, you can put on a parka to fish, right?:)

Hi, Trée. You know what? I just might wear that yellow sweater today.:)

So true, Camille. So true. I may throw a big funeral for the old and boring sweaters.:)

Mona said...

You just reminded me that the winter is around the corner!

Ewwwe! I hate winter! I hate wearing too many clothes.I have so many sweaters that I bought a couple of years back & still haven't worn. I hope that winter is not too severe this year, so that I might to have to wear sweaters!

I prefer shawls...our Kashmir shawls & stoles & wrap arounds!

Serena said...

I hope it'll be a mild winter, too, Mona.:)

Spring is in the air here so I've been tidying up all my potted and hanging plants, trying to save those I neglected terribly throughout winter and adding new ones to the brood!

Spring is in the air at your end of the world, Lee, fall is in the air at mine. Amazing!:)
