People Are Strange

People are strange when you're a stranger
Faces look ugly when you're alone
Women seem wicked when you're unwanted
Streets are uneven when you're down
When you're strange
Faces come out of the rain
When you're strange
No one remembers your name
When you're strange.

(The Doors, "People Are Strange")

People ARE strange. I've always known that. They'll do things that chill you and thrill you, delight you and frighten you, beguile and then revile you. Sometimes simultaneously. Just in the past few days, I've seen a little of each in some of the crooks and crannies of my world. I always say, "Whatever floats your boat." Sometimes the extremes are a bit rough on the sensibilities, though. If they don't care, I don't care -- as long as it doesn't bust my bubble or blast my bliss.
:-)

I'll tell you what else is rough on senses and sensibilities -- Dog Days. It's been too hot here for the past week, and it's getting hotter. The forecast is mid-90s every single day this week. These are truly the Dog Days of August.

Speaking of dogs, the Neighbors From Hell turned their overgrown hellhound out to run loose yesterday and he charged my little dog who was walking nicely (and legally) on her leash. The thing bit her and made her yelp before the hubs was able to get it off her and run it off. Like the NFH, the dog was also Teflon coated. As usual, by the time the cops got there, the dog was back inside and there was no evidence of anything. They'll be out of all of our lives within the next thirty days (we all believe), and it looks like they're going to raise absolute hell in the interim. Not that we don't all have a few tricks up our sleeves to throw right back at them. My little princess is spending the day at the doggie beauty parlor today. When she comes home, I think I'll let her strut her stuff up and down by the fence and drive that mangy, unkempt, ill-mannered hellhound wild (he can't jump my fence).

I don't always know where I'm going, but I always know where I've been.

Words Gone Wild, from our favorite infamous "editor" person:

adverties

feel there emotions

God, I'm having to fight the overwhelming desire to pay her some money to edit me.

And from elsewhere in the loopy world of TWISTED LINGUISTICS:

I am lsoing mym ind - This is just one of those WTF things.

interresting - Dead, buried, and resting.

apoplogy - When you say you're sorry so much you finally stroke out.

nether will I - I will not venture into those mysterious regions.

the morrow of the story is - Something about in the morning, I think.

succeded - Something that was given permission to suck majorly.

The Curious Spork

I know I'm strange and I think I answered your Shakespeare question. LOL

Oh my G-d! Is your puppy OK? The hus served a purpose? That is beyond the fold. I would call it "war" now.

I don't always know where I'm going either, but forgetting where I've been guarentees a new experience when I get there.

Unknown said...

"War" on the puppy abuse and not on the purpose serving hus for the record. =D

Yep, yep, we're strange. Of course I can only speak for myself. I think each of us thinks the same of others, since there's no way for us to know the experiences and motivations of others. So the best we can do is just watch and hope that no one gets harmed. I hope I haven't caused fear for anyone, specifically you, since you're pointing it out. As I've said before, I'm mostly harmless.

LOL, Roxan. Corn Dog had a thing about sporking the other day.:)

Pup's fine, Kan. The damn terrorist scared her more than anything else, I think. We couldn't find any blood on her. Yup, hus did something useful. Now I KNOW the end of the world as we know it is coming. LOL. I have the opposite experience with going/coming. If I forget where I've been, I know I'm doomed to do that again.:)

Y'all ain't so strange, Charles. Shoot, you guys barely even register on my Strange Meter. I can't imagine you ever harming a hair on anyone's literal or figurative head.:)

People are strange indeed. I find myself strange too at times...

Hey I hope that Wild Boar of a hound goes yelping in pain when your baby struts her stuff :D

& your twisted lingustics are beginning to look more & more like my twisted typing :D

Serena said...

I just may take you up on that, Scary, and ask you for something extra wicked from your bag of tricks. So sorry about your screen, but I'm glad you got a kick out of the "word.":-)

Ah, Mona, you ain't so strange.:) And as for your typing, can you imagine me trying to type in Hindi? THAT would be twisted. You do a fine job.

Unfortunately, I don't always know where I've been.

That may not be my punk band name, but it kind of describes my punk band days.

My punk days I remember. Straight Edge and all. Wasted youth to be frank. Giving up sex and drugs at the age they are easiest to get is beyond punk and becomes stupid. Now I would kill to get either. Isn't that ironic?

My punk band name was something about a grenade...

But what about The Smalls, NoMeansNo, Squat, The Ramada Gods, The ElCaminos, FurnaceFace, Red Autumn Fall, Road Crew Orange, Bitchunt, Chixdiggit, Inside Joke...

Talk about strange people.

Serena said...

Your punk band days, Camille? Totally understandable then.:)

Kan, sometimes I'm convinced that life IS one big irony. LOL.

Seeley, I thought I knew of a lot of punk bands but, honey, I've never heard of any of those. Clearly, my education is sadly lacking. Yowzer.

you always know where you've been?

girl, you need to come to London for a proper night out in the pub!

We can cure you of that track record ;)
xx

Serena said...

Oh, wow, Pinks, I would relish the opportunity to improve my track record. Call me when you're back from Nairobi; we'll do London up right proper.:)

Charles said...

I sometimes wonder about the purpose of life. I keep thinking that the purpose of life is life. Your comment about irony made me think though. What if the purpose of life isn't life, but instead the purpose of life is death? Just enough life to continue death. That's an ironic thought. Nah, that couldn't be.

Serena said...

What if the purpose of life isn't life, but instead the purpose of life is death?

That does rather fit into the general gestalt, Charles. It's been said that we begin the dying process the moment we're born. From a purely physiological standpoint, I believe that's true.

Seed Pop Twisters, Galen? That's giving me some bizarre imagery. Not snap, crackle, and pop, either.:-) I've had a good one; hope you have, too.

Thank God I don't have neighbours from hell! That would drive me insane. Fortunately, all my neighbours are far enough away, I rarely see them, let alone hear them. And they are all nice people, anyway.

Anonymous said...

LOL, SJ. I'm not surprised you haven't heard of most of them. Some, Bitchunt for example, never sold more than 8 or 9 homemade cassettes (but isn't that what punk's all about?). And really I think people were taking pity on them so they could buy beer, and I had to cause they were my roommates.

I strongly recommend having a listen to Furnaceface and NoMeansNo though.

Serena said...

You're lucky not to have to deal with NFH, Lee.:)

Seeley, you had a punk band for roommates? How cool is that?!

What if the Hokey Pokey really is what it's all about?
