Long-ku, Anyone?

Myspace Layouts

Wow, it's July already. And I say we might as well start it off with a bang.

We've previously written Haiku, and we've written Short-ku and Faux-ku. Today, we're going to write Long-ku -- for which the formula changes to 8-10-8. Give it a try, and write as many as you wish. Above all else, just have fun with it! You deserve it.

When life's travails overwhelm
And leave you screaming in the dark of night,
Have a martini for God's sake!

Careless whispers breed breathless sighs,
Fevered words, secret passions ignite. Hot!
Two aspirins, all better now.

Straining over Shakespeare's verses,
My head is spinning and my eyes are crossed
To answer Serena's challenges.

His head doth spin and eyes widen,
But Mike hath met the challenge. Forsooth! He
Met Serena's demands and lived!

I.
2 PM; I'm in my PJs.
It's Sunday! Thom Yorke sings to me as I
Drink coffee, re-pot hydrangeas.

II.
Bright yellow sun lights up the haze;
Plants shrivel up and try to hide from it.
Dog crawls under the deck and whines.

Beautiful job, Greeny! I especially like #2. You captured the very essence of summer in 26 syllables. Bravo!

Trevor sleeps in the arms of love,
Mairi strokes his troubles with tender care,
And from darkness comes sweet release

Serena Joy said...

Trée, I knew you could do this, and just look what you produced. Unlike my own silly nonsense, that is utterly beautiful.

Look high to the heavens for stars,
And they will guide you to inspiration,
Otherwise you know where I am

Serena Joy said...

You are waxing purely poetic today, my dear.:)

Trée said...

You inspire me. :-)

Serena Joy said...

Oui? I must say, I prefer inspiring people to write poetry than inspiring them to do ... other things.:)

I am disappointed in you.
My thoughts of fun and laughter are broken.
Bastardized Bard is better than this.

Charles said...

Interpreted Shakespearian,
You make my soul's laughter come out so well,
You brightened my weekend and their's.

Serena Joy said...

And yet you did it anyway,
And did so very well in spite of your
Recalcitrance, Charles. Game well done!

P.S. -- You can go back and bastardize some Bard any time you want to. Ain't no time limitation.:-)

Serena Joy said...

I'm really glad you enjoyed it, Charles. It was fun, and we'll definitely do it again.:)

Neurons fire making my thoughts real.
Caffeine makes my tongue and heart so happy.
Waking I think, sleeping I dream.

Serena Joy said...

A most excellent long-ku! {{APPLAUSE}}

Alas, I tend to do my best thinking in my dreams -- and then I forget it. I blame it on the ill effects of too much caffeine making my neurons fire sluggishly.

Charles said...

Long-ku is alright I thought once.
Prime-ku would be a challenge if thought through.
Prime syllables, letters totaling prime.

Serena Joy said...

I think we'll have to leave prime-ku to your expertise, Charles. Sounds too mathematical to me. Anything involving mathematical principles is anathema to me.:-)

Charles said...

:P Fooey! I'm disappointed. Now I'm just going to go sulk in a corner.

Serena Joy said...

Sorry, there's no sulking allowed.:-)

Since you know what it is and I don't -- show me!

Alas at It Occurred To Me
I wrote about spell checkers instead of
For Verbicidal Tendencies.

But there is no need to feel sad
For I have one about words for V.T.
I hope everyone will read.

(The world's first Long-Ku containing hyperlinks.)

Alright I will then.
If we must write one right now,
I will. It is not that difficult a thing.
Line 1. 5 syllables 16 letters
Line 2. 7 syllables 24 letters
Line 3. 11 syllables 31 letters
16 + 24 + 31 = 71 letters
5,7,11,71 all are prime.

Serena Joy said...

LOL, Mike. There's a first time for everything.:-)

Charles! I told you I was a mathematical moron. The prime part is totally over my head.:)

I fed the pink duck on her blog.
Then, I took the quiz "How Insane Are You?"
Now, I'm supposed to write Long-ku?

Corn Dog said...

I forgot the title of mine is "WTF?"

Serena Joy said...

Pure perfection, LBB!

And yet, CD, WTF, you did it anyway. LMAO!

You guys are all so freakin' talented. I'm saying freakin' and WTF and stuff as much as I can because I'm trying to get at least an "R" rating for my blog. So far, I'm only netting a PG-13 because the rater only picked up 2 asses and 3 hells. WTF?!

You know I have to trash any ku
I do not care to write this crap at all
Haiku should die a painful death.

G-Man said...

Charming, pretty, always witty.
This girl keeps them begging like a lost dog!
Serena Joy...Myth or Legend?

Serena Joy said...

Yeah, but you did it anyway, Roxan, so you get an E for Effort.:)

Aw, gee, G. When I get a better prize than the horse head thing, you'll win it for sweetest -Ku.:-)

Roxan said...

It's making up for the 'I can't kill people because it's illegal' issue. I can trash it and there's nothing anyone can do about it. LOL

Can I write poetry? Yes. Just incase you were wondering.
