Humor is the Best Balm

Is there one single person in the free world who is the least bit surprised that the Prez commuted Scooter Libby's prison sentence? Not I. I'm rather disgusted by it, but not surprised. I'm only surprised that he waited this long to do it.

It's a good thing I got a new book yesterday and was fully engrossed in it before hearing the news. For that reason, I didn't yell and cuss nearly as much as I might otherwise have. I was too busy laughing out loud and holding my belly to keep from rupturing something. I know you can live without a spleen; I don't know about the other stuff.

I don't talk so much about books, but I love, love, love Janet Evanovich's 'Stephanie Plum' series. The newest one is what had me so amused yesterday. If you're not familiar with the series, Stephanie Plum is a Jersey Girl-cum-bounty hunter who with her unique qualifications and insane supporting characters stamps out crime in the burg. I don't read this series for the mystery or for Stephanie's crime solving abilities, though. I read them because they are guaranteed to make me roll on the floor and pee my pants laughing (and to drool over the two men Stephanie is torn between). I'm only halfway through this one and already laughed myself into several bellyaches last night. So far, there's been a bashed up car (Stephanie goes through cars like I go through pantyhose), an exploding pot-growing house, a missing, presumed dead corpse, Granny in a push-up bra, a toupee beaten to death on the dining room table, and stuffed dead animal bombs detonated courtesy of a taxidermist who doesn't want to make bond.

I made the mistake of trying to read "Lean Mean Thirteen" (that's the title) while eating dinner. It's not a good idea to chew up some nice morsel and get ready to swallow it at the same time you come to a scene that causes a laughing spasm -- which causes the food to get sucked down the windpipe and end up snorted out the nose. It's a good thing I was eating alone. I can only imagine how gross and disgusting all that choking and snorting and coughing and gasping for air must have looked. I somehow don't think the word "charming" quite cuts it. I was reading one of these in an airport terminal once and attracted quite a bit of attention. Thank God I wasn't eating anything. They never would have let me on the plane.

Speaking of gross and disgusting, Roxan found us some prime specimens of Words Gone Wild today.

They might try to intimate, just ignore them.
Someone may attempt to imply something, possibly, or somebody just might try to get a little bit too cozy. I suppose the advice to ignore it is warranted. Maybe.

i just want to know if you have reciever the check now, if so kinsly get back to me okay.
I believe what this person is asking is whether the telephone has been swept for bugs that day. I'm not sure who Kinsly is. It could be the kinky person who bugged the phone in the first place.

checks all came from recurting.
First, we must determine what curting is. Could it be someone with a twang referring to courting? But if that's the case, and payment is involved, wouldn't that be something else altogether? I don't think those folks take checks, though, so maybe they're talking instead about somebody who gets paid to be rude and sarcastic over and over again; i.e., Customer Service people.

I just love this picture

Death can not stop true love, it can only delay it for a little while.

It won't let me post the picture...*pouts*. It was cool.

I think a lot of men would totally LOVE to see a girl with food stuck up her nose while they're eating. Sure they would! :-)

My mouth dropped open when I read about the pardon, yes it did surprise me. I didn't think he could afford to do it politically but hey when you're at the bottom of the polls, what's the loss.
This is abuse of power but they ALL do it, it's just easier for us to hate Bush because he's thrown away civil liberties and had fun playing war with over 3000 military service people, not counting innocent civilians.

Does anyone remember the famous middle of the night pardon of Marc Rich during the final hours of the Clinton administration?
those receiving pardons included commodities trader Marc Rich, a fugitive who was prosecuted for tax evasion by then-US Attorney Rudolph Giuliani and fled to Switzerland. Rich was pardoned after his former wife, Denise Rich, contributed heavily to Hillary Clinton's Senate campaign.
If you google *Clinton's pardons*, there is a long list of who and what they were accused of, some of the crimes were quite serious.
Sound familiar?

I LOVE the Love Quote you got, Seeley. It's so Alpha to Omega somehow; like, "In my end is my beginning."

LOL, December. They probably would, but we must then ask ourselves: Are these men we'd want to eat with?:-)

I remember that, TC. I know, a lot of this kind of stuff goes on. I guess when you're at the top of the hill, you can drop pretty much whatever you want on those below.

You got a nice Love Quote, too, Roxan. Thanks again for hunting down today's dose of TL. I loved every single one of them.:)

I would much rather travel through life as a peon with my morals and soul intact than spend one second behaving like these lowlife.

Love is the triumph of imagination over intelligence.

I like this one AND it was only 1 question.lol

LOL, TC. Those one-worders are pretty good, huh?

I'm a peon. Peonery ain't so bad.:-)

Depends is a good default answer to many of the things in your post today. In answer to your questions: Depends. To solve the peeing your pants problem (I'm assuming here, maybe you like it.) Depends. Going through pantyhose (I'm reaching, granted.) Depends. I always thought you were supposed to pull those down to go, but I'm guy, what do I know?

Serena said...

Charles, I always said I'd never consider Depends until I was old. That could be next week. I might consider it sooner, though, depending on how big a problem the chafing becomes. Depends. I'm not talking about the pantyhouse deal. That's top secret Females Only info.:-)

I'm so happy that you have a good sense of humor. :D

I think a sense of humor is the only way one can survive life and get out of it alive.:-)

I wasn't surprised one bit that his sentence was commuted. If Libby started talking about who really runs the government, that could be very embarassing, I expect.

Serena said...

I think that's pretty much how things are run, T. Favors and privileges are extended every day to ensure silence at one level or another. It's the old "You scratch my back and I'll scratch yours" network. Now that Liddy's ass is out of the sling and all he's going to have to pay is some money he won't even miss, his lips are zipped and everybody's happy. Doo-dah-doo-dah.

Charles said...

Not everybody. I'm not. Again, where's our equal protection under the law? Chances are if it were a political opponent, they'd be facing a firing squad for treason.

Serena said...

I should have been clearer, Charles. By "everybody," I meant everybody in government's inner circle -- the ones who've been dancing jigs today. The rest of us just have to put up with it and swallow our distaste for the whole thing.

Me loes the picture at the bottom of the post. Reminds me of a blistering summer's day and Me be standing around with an ice cream cone in me hand. Me takes a few licks of the cone to lap up the melty stuff before me lunges in for the first delicious bite.

STOMP.

Dude! Do not bite the kitty! He's just a little mite, not even big enough for a Scary Monster appetizer. Probably too salty, too.:-)

It's a wonderful feeling to be able to laugh out loud when reading a book...not such a good feeling, as you say, when you have your mouth full!

I don't know why it took me so long to get over here Serena, I'm a little daft at times I guess, but you have a great blog, and I'll visit regularly.

Serena said...

Greeny, I'm not sure where that quote comes from. Maybe it was 'The Princess Bride.' I really, really like it, though.

So true, Lee. :-)

If you're daft, Blue, you're in the right place. LOL. Stop by any time.:)

I too love, love, love Stephanie Plum. Can't choose between Joe and Ranger, and adore Granny. I will probably have to wait for my birthday (November!) for the newest one. Or perhaps I might treat myself ...

And Lula. She and Tank still making sweet music?

Serena said...

Liz, my dear, you cannot possibly wait until Nov. for this! Go ahead, treat yourself now. The sooner you get this book in your hands, the happier you're going to be. And yep, Lula & Tank are getting tighter and tighter -- hilariously so.:)

me wonders if scary monster talks that way in real life.lol

Scary Monster be a true original. Him STOMP.:-)

Okay, you've persuaded me!

Good for you, Liz! You won't regret splurging on it.:)

I loved the newest PLUM myself!

I'm surprised Scooter got commuted, when what I expected was a full pardon (he'll get THAT from Bush in January 2009....ala Bill Clinton's lousy pardons before he left office).

And I love you for remembering my birthday! It was a good one. Quid

Serena said...

Quid, darling, I'm glad you had a good birthday! Yeppers, Jan. '09 wouldn't surprise me a bit.

P.S. -- Nothing has changed. I still want to be Stephanie Plum.:-)
