I ... Need

Myspace Layouts

I (like all of us) need food. Clothing. Shelter. I may sometimes wish for a new house, more designer clothes, more money. Perhaps I want it -- momentarily, wistfully. I don't need it.

Occasionally, I want to be swept off my feet by someone off the cover of a Romance novel. What I need is the camaraderie of my friends. That, I have. We always get what we need.

I want to travel the world, footloose and fancy-free. I need to remember to buy gas and keep my car serviced so I can get to work tomorrow -- and to wash it every now and then.

Sometimes I may long for a more luxurious car. I don't need it, and I immediately realize how fortunate I am to be able to own and operate a car at all.

I may think I want caviar and champagne served to me by a cute cabana boy on a Tahitian beach. All I need is to remember to eat something with some nutritional value for dinner tonight -- and to be thankful that I am fortunate enough to have choices.

Whenever I find myself coveting more of this, that, or the other, I need to remember that I already have (more than) enough and to have a care for those in true need.

Sometimes I wish for closer, more loving relationships with some family members and friends, and then I remember that things are always just as they are supposed to be. I already have what I need. Everything happens exactly the way it is intended to happen. Sometimes trying to fix that which isn't broken, or which is irrevocably broken, is futile. And potentially dangerous.

You can't always get what you want,
And if you try sometime, you find
You get what you need...

So saith the Rolling Stones, and I wouldn't argue with that.

Let's dance. I will always need that.

What do you need?

TWISTED LINGUISTICS

The TL militia rounded up some doozies of straggling Words Gone Wild today.

how he manged - He developed a dreadful skin condition. And a bark.

untied we stand - Getting ready for an ... orgy of barefootedness?

at lease - Quest for the rental agreement.

agreessive - Angry and covered in grease.

reovering - Go over there again.

conscentious - Agreeing to consensual licentious behavior.

disengenious - Disenfranchised genius.

reptitive - Snake sex.

Two Cajuns are walking down the street. One notices a compact on the sidewalk and leans down to pick it up. He opens it, looks in the mirror and says, "Hmm, this person looks familiar."

The second Cajun says, "Here, let me see!"

So the first Cajun hands him the compact.

The second one looks in the mirror and says, "You dummy, it's me!"

Goofing Off at Work

You Are a Learning Cook

You've got the makings of an excellent cook, and the desire to be one.
But right now, you're just lacking the experience. You couldn't be a top chef yet, but you could be an apprentice.

***You Are an Excellent Cook***

You're a top cook, but you weren't born that way. It's taken a lot of practice, a lot of experimenting, and a lot of learning.
It's likely that you have what it takes to be a top chef, should you have the desire...

Whenever you're ready SJ, I'm ready to teach you.
You can be my sous chef. LOL

I only need interest, variety and to be challenged in some way. You can apply these to everything I do or want.

I need to know what it is I want.

That's why I was always confused by Cheap Trick's mixed messages. Do they WANT me to WANT them? Or do they NEED me to NEED them? I'm also confused that they would be singing this to another male in the first place.

Sous chef, Roxan? You sure about that? I thought you liked your kitchen and didn't want to see it burned down.:-)

Interest, variety, and challenge -- I think that's what life's all about, VE. Yep, your head is on straight.:-)

I'd like to know that, too, LBB, but I kind of think I never will, not with "want" in such a state of constant flux.:-)

Puggy, I think they were singing that to me.:-)

Not my kitchen. It belongs to the company that owns my apartment.
I doubt you could burn it down though, unless you can generate enough heat chopping onions. LOL

Serena said...

Nah, I wouldn't really burn it down. I always manage to rescue the burning pots -- and then throw them out because there's no way to clean them up.:-)

I need to feed myself on a semi-regular basis, sitting at the computer until 1:00 in the afternoon before getting anything more than coffee isn't good. I need a few friends, some online, some in "real life." I probably need to get rid of some of what I do have, because some of it I don't need.

Serena said...

EAT, Charles! If I waited 'til 1:00 to eat something, I'd pass out on my keyboard. Friends are always good, online and real world. The more, the merrier. I have stuff I need to get rid of, too. I just need the mindset and the time to do it.:)

Listen to this absurdity: "You're a top cook, but you weren't born that way. It's taken a lot of practice, a lot of experimenting, and a lot of learning.
It's likely that you have what it takes to be a top chef, should you have the desire..."

Yeah, and monkeys'll fly out my butt.

I am a good cook, when I cook, which is rare. Put me in a top chef's kitchen and I'd probably pass out and let my shoes hit the doughboard or something.

I want an awful lot of things, but I have everything I need. Backing off from worry about what I might want really frees me up to do other things (besides cooking, I mean).

xo!

Little Birdie, you want ME! And I want you to want me!

Pug, they'd LOVE you to LOVE them. It's just weird, but cheap tricks are like that.

Serena said...

LOL, Greeny. I want and need not to cook. And I want monkeys.

The ability to back off from worry is a wonderful, life-saving, sanity-preserving thing. I don't worry nearly as much as I used to.

Oh I know my way around the kitchen!!!
Cooking is not Rocket Science!!
Baking IS!!!

Serena...? May I please put in an application for Cabana Boy?...
I call it Cabana Bitch!

...and Serena? You keep a very neat desk....*cough* *cough*

I need...sleep.

And I generally like to cook. When I'm avoiding work I bake. The hubs always knows when I'm stuck in a story because he comes home to cookies, cakes, or elaborate meals.

LOL, G. Some days it's neater than others. I really hate it when there's blood on it. Let me check with the Labor Dept. about the job description for a Cabana Bitch. Geez, I hope it's not FEMA in charge of that. It probably is, since there are little umbrellas involved.:-)

Wow, December. When I get stuck, I just ... cuss.:-)

Wonderful written post about the difference between wants and needs.
A nice reminder to be grateful for the things we have.
Thank you.

I NEED to feel better.:)

I like the idea of not buying something unless you've considered it at least three times. If its something you need it will come up again, if its just a want, unless you are reminded, it will likely pass from your mind.
Me, I can put things off far longer than that, sometimes neglecting what is really a need.

Serena said...

We do require a gentle prodding every now and then, TC. Just this morning I was getting ready to pitch a bitch about the water pressure. I said to myself, "Shut up! You're lucky you even have running water. You'd have died in 2 days in the little house on the prairie."

I need you to feel better, TC.

That's a good plan, Charles. And not only because 3 is one of my lucky numbers. Be careful about putting off the necessities for too long, though.

I need.....ummmmm...where do I start? It's different to "want"...not sure how to answer this one.

Serena said...

Precisely, Lee. Sometimes there's a very fine line between needing and wanting.

An excellent post on wants and needs, SJ.

Not everyone can separate wants and needs and know the difference.
