Barbaro Is Gone

After suffering further painful complications overnight from his Preakness injury, 3-year-old Barbaro was euthanized this morning. He was strong and beautiful and magnificent, a horse with the heart of a warrior. He tried so valiantly to live, and I am so sad that he didn't make it. May he rest in pain-free peace now in a place where the grass is tall and green and the fillies sweet and plentiful.

I know nothing about horse racing except for the one time I went to a dog track I learned there are no horses there, but they do basically the same thing only larger. News of anything dying when trying to fight to live is tragic though and I share your feelings.

I could have gone all day without knowing that. Are you TRYING to make me cry?!?!?!

That's what's so tragic, Kan. He fought so hard and then lost the battle.

Lesia, I've already cried and ... nobody likes to cry alone. I'll pass you a Kleenex.

That's very sad. I hate horse racing and dog racing.

I don't like it, either. And I don't like the big money and avarice involved in horse racing. If he hadn't been born into thoroughbred racing, I doubt that Barbaro would be dead today.

I hate dog racing even more. Dogs were never intended to race. My boss has 6 rescued Greyhounds and those poor things were treated horribly during their "racing careers." Everything about dog racing, fighting, puppy mills, etc., just makes me sick.

I heard about that today. It's so sad.

Breaks my heart. So long brave soul. May you never have to suffer like you did in this life.

That made me cry again, Corn Dog. This is SO sad.

I think that in the end all their attempts to save Barbarol caused the poor horse more unnecessary pain and suffering over an extended period of time since it's original injury.

I think so, too. It's such a shame.
