One Less Vice

I quit smoking on April 20th.  Just like that.  And the amazing part is how easy it has been to stay (mostly) cigarette-free.  How did I do it?  Well, I did it with this slim blue item:

It’s an electronic cigarette.  My sister was using one and nudged me into trying it, so when I was at her place in April I went and bought one.  And you know what?  I love it.  It completely satisfies the cravings, and it tastes good, too.  I fill it with a few drops of e-liquid, which comes in a myriad of flavors, and that’s all there is to it.  A puff or two totally eradicates the craving for a cigarette, and the e-liquid costs only a fraction of the cost of cigarettes.  The high price was, in all honesty, the main reason I quit.  I do keep a pack of cigarettes around – you never know when you’re going to have a high-stress moment – but a pack is lasting about a month and a half.  I think I only smoke one occasionally because I know it’s there, and I think I’d be perfectly fine with just the e-cigarette even during a meltdown.

I can sit at my desk at work and take a puff whenever I want to, because there’s no fire, smoke, ashes, or odor.  It’s mainly water vapor with a little nicotine and flavoring, and it has no smell whatsoever.  I predict my boss will be on one of these soon, because he’s been trying to quit smoking and has met with little success.  He said Friday he was getting “the patch” this weekend.  He’s done the Blu e-cigarette before, but I’m told that there’s no comparison to the kind I have.  I think he’ll end up with one of these since he's seen how much I like it and how effective it is.

Good for you! Mama's still puffing away at 84. When we visit her, we come home and smell like we've been in a biker bar. Even my purse stinks of smoke. Bless her heart, maybe I'll suggest this to her. xo

Hey, Marion. I think if your mama tries it, she'll like it. Just remind her of all the money she'll be saving!:)

Congratulations, Serena.

I gave up "cold turkey" three or so years ago after many, many years as a smoker. I don't regret giving up; and I know I'll never smoke again. But I've not become one of those "born-again" preachers about the evils of smoking. I hope I never do! The only advice I would give is to the young to never take it up in the first place - but people make their own choices.

I believe just giving up, cold turkey, is the best way to do it; or it was for me, anyway.I just stopped buying them. And then didn't dwell on them...and when those anti-smoking ads came on TV...I just pressed the remote. I reckon they are just reminders to those who are trying to give up cigarettes...and the ads don't help at all, in my opinion!

Good for you! :)

(I deleted my previous post because I'd made a typo in it).

Kudos in the habit-kicking battle!

Hey, Lee, good for you, doing the "cold turkey" thing. That's hard! I don't do the preaching, either, and I'm sure I never will. Aren't those anti-smoking ads just horrible?! I refuse to watch them.:)

Thanks, Skunk! Serena's kicked some tobacco butt. Took names, too.;-)

I have a pen that looks like that, but I put something else in it.
Congrats Sherry, keep it up!

Thanks, Mr. G-man. So far, so good. And I haven't been tempted to start smoking my pens.:-)

SO AWESOME!! Now you got me thinking about getting one for son and his girl.

Sigh. Enabling. I think you have to get your own when you're damn good and ready.

I think you're probably right, Quid. I think you have to want to do it first. If your son hears about the e-cigs, though, and realizes how many bucks he'll be able to keep in his pocket, he just might start wanting to try it.:)
