Miss Begotten is one of my pet names for myself, for Southern Gothic reasons best kept to myself. Miss Begotten tries to speak plainly, but sometimes she tends to babble -- parenthetically, of course. It's never my intention to offend (and usually that's true - except on those [maybe not so] rare occasions when I mean it very friggin' much) but it sometimes happens, so if you're unusually easily offended...

In With The New
Today, history is being made in America with the swearing in of our 44th president who just happens to be the first black American president. Expectations are high that Barack Obama will bring to the White House the energy, enthusiastic vitality, and fresh perspective necessary to effectuate the sweeping change this country desires and desperately needs. Time will tell whether he can deliver. Certainly, it's unthinkable that he can do any worse than his immediate predecessor. Obama appears to have goals and vision. Let's hope that he is provided with the requisite tools to implement the direction in which he hopes to lead this country.
I've always hated that sappy, impossible to answer truthfully question asked at so many job interviews: "Where do you see yourself in five years?" But I know where I'd like to see this nation at the end of Obama's (first) four-year term:
- People back to work
- The economy back on track
- No further government bailouts necessary
- New businesses opening and thriving
- No more closings of companies that have been around for decades
- Cessation of the current flood of foreclosures and bankruptcies
- Our troops out of Iraq and not engaged elsewhere
- Affordable health care for all Americans
I hope that President Obama acquits himself successfully and honorably in all that he endeavors and that his vision for America becomes reality and is not simply a case of idealistic good intentions. He has a job of monumental proportions ahead of him, and it's not going to be easy. I wish him well.
We're not going to inaugurate these blasfomys, but we can perhaps define them. You think? Better yet, how about using them to write a little story for me?

I wish him well too. I don't think Obama is going to absolutely do the best with what he's got to work with. I finally feel like we have a "real" person in the white house...someone who will listen and may not always have the ability to please everyone, but really will work towards making positive changes for us. And I also feel like if he doesn't know to make something work or solve a problem, he will find out instead of pretending to know like someone else who was previously in office.
I'm very optimistically curious to see where we end up in four years.

His $150 million plus week long party doesn't set well with me, especially not in this time of economic crisis. So far he's nothing but a bunch of pretty talk.
Still, I'm willing to keep an open mind and hope for the best.
Where do I see myself? Usually in front of a mirror...
Within 5-years, I would like to see The White House renamed as "The Rainbow House".
Sherry....?
You need to run for office!!
WOW....Great Expectations, lets hope he comes through...G
Optimism is the name of the game right now, Snow. I think we're all feeling it, or at least hoping for it. I'm optimistic that we at least won't be any worse off four years from now.
Hoping for the best is about the best we can do, Roxan. Let's hope good things start happening soon.
I cover my mirrors, VE. It scares me when I see myself there.:)
Works for me, Pugsley, as long as the painters include lots of pink and purple -- with some sparklies in the paint.:)
Good Lord, Galen, I couldn't get elected as dog catcher. And dogs like me.:)
That yesterday was historic, is beyond question. What will come of it, I am much more cautious about. "We'll see", said the zen master.
I'll take my dose of President Obama with a dose of cynisism.
I find it hard to be trustful of polititions.
Very true, Skunk. We're definitely in "wait and see" mode for the immediate future.
I hear 'ya, NYD. There's no getting away from them, though, so we have to hope one will actually do what he says he'll do.
