Flee(t)ing Days of Summer

Nobody on the road
Nobody on the beach
I feel it in the air
The summer's out of reach
Empty lake,
Empty streets
The sun goes down alone

I can tell you my love for you will still be strong
After the boys of summer have gone
Out on the road today I saw a Deadhead sticker
On a Cadillac
A little voice inside my head said, don't
Look back. You can never look back.

(Don Henley, "The Boys of Summer")

It's October already and Summer has truly had her last hurrah. It dropped down to 45 degrees Saturday night and last night -- definitely blanket weather. It's still warm outside during the day -- shorts weather -- but these last vestiges of Summer won't last much longer. Another month or so and Summer will be history. As the days shorten and the temperatures drop, I will miss her as I drag out my woolens and sweaters, jackets and gloves, and ... shoes. Since I wear sandals and slides all Summer, real shoes take some getting used to. I'll have the blisters to prove it, too.

Dressing is hard in weather like this because it's difficult to anticipate what to put on. It was cold enough this morning that I was inclined to bundle up. I knew it would be very warm by afternoon, though, and I'd be too hot. I went with cotton pants and a cotton sweater set. When it heats up, the cardigan can come off and the short sleeved sweater underneath will feel good.

The last remaining Neighbor From Hell is gone. Woo-hoo and hoochie-mama! After this (learning) experience (for all concerned), we'll never have to worry about any more hellions moving in, either.

My neighbor up the street has been exposed to bacterial meningitis and she and her husband have to begin a course of antibiotics today. That's some scary stuff. The person by whom they were exposed has been in the hospital for four days on a ventilator.

Words Gone Wild handed over to TWISTED LINGUISTICS to play with:-

slide of hand - Not something to be discussed in polite company.

extraoridnary ... experinece - Exorcism gone bad.

diminshes - A particularly virulent and insidious form of dementia.

succombed - Sucked so bad it died.

ubderstandably - EXTREMELY clear. Jawohl!

litteral - A machine for disposing of litter.

Let's see what the fortune cookie has to say today.

Where did you get a fortune cookie like that?
Holy Cow!!
Maybe the same place that I got..
"Man who take loose woman to strawberry patch, will soon have ass in jam!"

And indeed Winter will be quite brutal this year, when you have to cover up those very pretty pink piggies..xoxox

Support bacteria -- it's the only culture some people have!

Hmmm, G. Serena say look like we both got cookies from sneaky vendor in trench coat. Serena love strawberry jam, BTW.:) Yes, indeed, I hate the thought of having to stuff the piggies into socks and suffocating the poor things. They are going to SQUEEEEEE-ALLLLL!:-)

I think you got a smartass cookie, Roxan. LOL. I'm glad those cretins are gone, too.:)

Bye bye NFH! That is awesome!!!

The weather here SUCKS! Rain, rain, rain, rain, thunder, rain, wind, rain- hurricane without the name basically. I would rather the chill than the damp.

Serena said...

LOL, Roxan. I like it, too.:)

Yeah, it IS pretty awesome about the NFH, Kan. So sorry about your rotten weather. Hope it clears up soon.:)

I can testify to Kan's take on Miami weather, out of the seven days I spent down there, Saturday was the only one that it didn't rain. There were periods that were gorgeous though, especially the sunsets. I think I like the weather better here on the west coast of central Florida, even though we get some pretty fierce thunderstorms, Plus, there's fewer homeless here.

You're scaring me with the contagious diseases, Typhoid Mary! Stop!

Isn't Plague one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse? Had to be the proximity to the NFH.

Serena said...

I wish we here in VA could relieve you in FL of some of your rain, Charles. We need it desperately.

Not to worry, Camille. I haven't been exposed; ergo, I can't give it to anyone else.:)

I wished a pox on the NFH, Charles. Is that a Plague? If so, then perhaps the Apocalypse is about to come down on them. If it does, they asked for it.:)

Serena. All people be alittle bit of sunshine. There are those who bring it into yer life when they enter it and there are those that, when they leave it seems like the whole world gets brighter.

Enjoy the fall weather and stay away from Plague victims.

STOMP!

VE, was that your cookie fortune?:)

I hear you, Scary. So true! And don't worry, I'm avoiding the plague like the plague.:)

"A bird in hand is safer than one overhead"

Now I have to wash my hand.

I love this time of year. I'm not a fan of flipflops and tanktops. I'm breaking out the boots and the layers with glee. In 2 months when it's 40 below I might complain, but for now I'm chillin' in the chill.

Serena said...

LOL, Seeley. Wash that hand; birds carry plague.:) I'm just the opposite. I love tanks and flip-flops, hate layers and boots. I'm pretty sure I'd never survive 40 below.

That's great news about the Nfh moving out, what is taking place so you don't have to worry about anymore moving in?
This is the kind of weather you have to layer clothes, sweater etc so if it gets too warm you can take it off, does take a bit of strategic planning tho doesn't it?
tc
btw, you've been tagged over at my place, have fun.:)

Hey, fortune's Cookie! Loved the Words Gone Wild, especially "succombed." Wah!

It's still toying around with late summer here. The days are hot, the nights cool. Unfortunately, the ragweed and the humidity are such that sleeping with the windows open is an iffy proposition.

Enjoy today's layers!

Hi, TC. Yep, this is for sure weather for strategic wardrobe planning. I'll do your tag. Thankfully, that's one I can actually do.:) The reason we should have no more NFH is because the landlord over there now knows to SCREEN applicants. They shoulda thought of that before.:)

Hi, Greeny. You didn't do your cookie?:) I'm sleeping with my windows just cracked. It's getting COLD out there at night.
