Sunday, Jamming With Serena

I freely admit that I was up late, preoccupied with this, that, and the other, and my mind is the proverbial blank this morning. I'm feeling a little bit (okay, a lot) lazy and laid back, so why don't we just relax and and listen to some music? Some of you will remember this song, perhaps fondly, while some of you youngsters will be scratching your heads and wondering, "Huh?" To me, it's timeless. If that makes me an old lady, so be it -- but don't let me hear you say it.

Two Reasons Why It's So Hard To Solve A Redneck Murder:
1. All the DNA is the same.
2. There are no dental records.

Oh, but I love it so much, Greeny honey. You young whippersnappers will just have to indulge an old rock 'n roll lady.:-)

Hey, TC. Greeny funny. Have a terrific Sunday!:)

Serena,
I've always thought that MeatLoaf was very cool!
He was a fat guy
He sweated a lot
And he always had a hot chick with him!!!

...I always loved this Vid, along with "Paradise by the Dashboard light", because of that hot Italian Looking Brunette background singer, I believe her name was Carla DeVita...Not quite as Hot as you, but Damn good looking woman..xox

Serena said...

I wasn't thinking in terms of sweat, Galen, but yeah, he's very cool. I love "Paradise..." too. I'm sure the kids are sitting back now saying, "LOL at those old codgers.":) Oh, yeah, Carla was hot. Not that I'm thinking of switching sides or anything. Just saying.xox

So does that make me a rock 'n roll whippersnapper?

Meatloaf is awesome, but the first time I heard one of his songs I was about 7. (Rock 'n roll parents; Jethro Tull and BOC were regular listening at my house) I once did a drunken duet of Paradise with a friend. That is one of the best songs ever.

Oh, and I finally realized who Jack Black's major musical influence is.

Serena said...

Seeley, I hereby anoint you a Rock 'n Roll Whippersnapper. Wow, Jethro Tull parents -- how cool is that?! I'd have loved to have heard your cover of Paradise. Too bad there was no YouTube when you were 7.:)

Anonymous said...

Um, it was a "drunken duet"...I was closer to 27 at the time....

And yeah, it's nice to have parents who understand the appeal of Marilyn Manson and Motley Crue.

I always liked Meatloaf. I still like a lot of younger music, but certainly not all of it. I don't care for cRAP. Give me singing and don't give me a bunch of your feelings of hatred. Don't give me samples of other's work, unless its one of those old comedy records. Give me actual instruments, not drum machines. Give me good old head banging, not something from a Tarzan movie.

Jethro Tull? I went to one of their concerts, it was great. I got to see ZZ-Top when they still looked like cowboys. I saw Brownsville Station among others. Shoot, I don't even remember all of the concerts. Now much of what I listen to is alternative rock. At least they sing.

Serena said...

Oh, Lord, Seeley, I totally missed the "drunken" part. Clearly, you'd have been a little older than 7. LOL. So, like, you know, it hasn't been that long ago. Didn't anybody get video? I'll bet it was great.

I can't stand cRAP, either, Charles. I do like Linkin Park, Maroon 5, Audioslave, Green Day and, yes, I'm still crazy about Pearl Jam. I'll still listen to Neil Young any time he wants to crank out a tune, too. And I think KT Tunstall rocks.

Actually there's more reasons why it's so hard to solve a redneck murder.

3. No one wants to search inside the house.
4. All those dogs tend to compromise the crime scene and consume the body.
5. There's an endless supply of suspects.
6. You get nothing but blank stares when you ask friends and family "what they know".
7. Lack of interest from the general public.

"Paradise by the Dashboard Lights" is my favorite, and I've been chasin' cars ever since.

Serena said...

#4 tends to really piss off CSIs in redneck country, Puggy. They say it happens a lot, too.

Paradise makes you chase cars, too?:-)

MEATLOAF!!!!

And I would do anything for love... I Just LOVE Meat Loaf!

'Its all coming back to me' is one of my recent favourites!:))

& I also love Linkin Park, Green Day, Gorillaz, Bon Jovi, Nelly Furtado, & Evanasecnce.

Serena said...

All right, Mona! We've practically got a Meat Loaf cult going on here.:)

Yes, that IS a great song. "I would do anything for love, but I won't do that." Except when I would.:-)

I like Nelly Furtado, too.

Trée said...

S, I always did love the energy and passion MeatLoaf put into his music. He is one of those that is much better seen and heard than just heard--imho. :-)

Serena said...

I think that's the attraction with him, Trée -- the passion he puts into it. You do have to see it to get the full effect. You're right, the energy of the music is something that needs to be experienced, not just heard.

Meatloaf was in the movie "Rocky Horror Picture Show"

Serena said...

I know, Lamby. Now that you mention it, I wouldn't mind seeing that again.

I'm damn proud of being a gobsmacked old coot, too, Pinks. We rock! I'll bet the young whippernsnappers are drooling now.:-)

I'm not a huge meatloaf fan, he's okay, but not one of my faves. I am certainly respectful everyone's taste in music, so I say indulge all you like SJ!! There's a lot of stuff I do like that other people are like "Whhhaaattt? Snow...Seriously!?!"
Everyone has a song that makes them feel wonderful and to me, that's what music is all about. :)

Have a great Sunday!! I have been lounging around in my pj's reading my sociology book. Here's to stress free, laid back Sundays!!

Meat Loaf is still alive?? There is something a little bit sad when a rock star doesn't get a Rock Star Death. Just look at the Stones.

Serena said...

I agree, Snow. The music you love, the music that makes you feel good, is what it's all about. Everyone has their own tastes and favorites.

I'm not reading Sociology today, but I'll second the motion for stress free, laid back Sundays.:-)

Serena said...

Yeah, he's still alive, T. I saw him in something or another not too long ago. He still sounded good, too. I AM amazed the Stones haven't systematically given themselves Rock Star Deaths, especially Keith Richards.

Here via Sling's blog. I had to lost the top 30 on my iPod once, and I htink it pretty clearly marked me as an oldie. Ah, well. I'm having some trouble geting videos to play on my laptop, butI got from thecomments that its Meatloaf. I can't see him without thinking about "Rocky Horror Picture Show."

Serena said...

Hi, CS. You're right, it's a Meat Loaf video, an oldie but goodie. 'Rocky Horror' is great. I have GOT to see it again.:)

Corn Dog said...

Meatloaf. Just say no. I tried to watch the video but could not. I watched a few seconds and thought "underbite" and "I want to be a back up singer from the 70's."

I loved the redneck jokes. Then I wondered if I was once a redneck, am I always a redneck or am I recovering? Can I go to Betty Ford for it?

Lee said...

Classic album...great fun...don't take any notice of what "thatgreenyflower" said!

Who hasn't got Meatloaf somewhere amongst their collection????

Serena said...

There probably is a redneck rehab program, CD, but I don't know, I always say why fight it? We might as well just roll with it.:-)

So true, Lee. Probably all of us "of a certain age" have it in our collections.:)

I have a soft spot for Meat Loaf. I don't think I know any of his music, but I remember him fondly from The Rocky Horror Picture Show (a truly thrilling ride when I was 14 or so).

Serena said...

Nice sites, Camille. Thanks for the links. I can't remember how old I was the first time I saw Rocky Horror, but they still show it pretty much annually at the neighborhood theatre. I'm feeling the need to see it again this year.:)

"...I'll do anything but I won't do that."

"...Two out of three ain't bad."

"...Let me sleep on it .. I'll give you my answer in the morning."

I wouldn't classify Meat Loaf as one of my top favorite groups - but those three songs (and Bat Out of Hell) are GREAT songs. He sure knew how to put on a show.

Of the live acts I have seen the best performances are in order:

1) Guess Who
2) Moody Blues
3) Meat Loaf
4) Tommy James & the Shondelles
5) Chicago

I'm talking about the way they performed and the "electricity" in the audience.

Serena said...

I never saw Meat Loaf live, but I sure would have liked to. I'll bet it would have been dynamite.
