Heat It Up

Myspace Layouts

The heat is on, on the street
Inside your head, on every beat
And the beat's so loud, deep inside
The pressure's high, just to stay alive
'Cause the heat is on.

("The Heat Is On," Glenn Frey)

It's turned hot again; like mid-90s. All I have to say is, thank God for air conditioning. Of all the things that make me cranky, heat is right up there near the top of the list. It's supposed to storm tonight and ... cool things down; i.e., it's only going to be near 90 tomorrow.

High summer is about to descend upon us and settle in for the duration. In other words, the heat is here to stay, so now is the time to develop strategies for defeating it.

Things To Do When It's Hot

* Clothing optional for most of these activities

- Anything that can be done underwater, go for it.
- Eat more ice cream.
- Fill the bathtub with ice and sit in it.
- Run the dog out of the back yard kiddie doggie pool and sit in it.
- Drink more. Go heavy on the ice, and the addition of any kind of alcohol might make you care less about the heat.
- Sit in front of the air conditioner and refuse to move.
- Sleep in front of the air conditioner -- in your skivvies. And refuse to move.
- Hide all the weapons -- and the household items that can be turned into emergency weapons. Tempers flare during heat waves. (Tennessee Williams knew a thing or two about that.)
- Carry a spray bottle with you and spritz yourself often. Warning: you may be asked to participate in wet tee-shirt contests.
- Think about going commando. After all, the less you're wearing, the less susceptible you are to prickly heat.
- Take up midnight bike riding. See Littlebirdblue for what I'm talking about.
- To keep a cool head, strap a battery-powered fan to your hat. You could do the same with your ankles, wrists, yada-yada. Just be sure to keep the weight balanced so you don't tip over. As damn hot as it is, nobody's going to bother to pick you up.

*Thanks, Camille. Thanks, everybody.

Boudreaux was bragging about his knowledge of state capitals. He proudly says, "Go ahead, and ask me, I know all of them."

A friend says, "OK, what's the capital of Wisconsin?"

Boudreaux replies, "Oh, that's easy: W."

I cut my hair a little bit yesterday.

***You Need Some Purple in Your Life***

Purple will make you feel ambitious, independent, and creative.
And with a little purple, you will project an aura of individuality.
If you want more extravagance, you've got to get a little purple in your life!

For extra punch: Combine purple with green or orange

The downside of purple: It can evoke sad feelings

The consequences of more purple in your life:

You will feel an increase in your artistic abilities
You will find balance in the most chaotic parts of your life
You will feel calm and will be hard to disturb

I hate hot. Unless it means a "hot" guy. LOL

I can't wear purple. It makes me look too Undead.:)

It's freezing down this way today. A very chilly southly wind is blowing. Further south it's even colder and the weather is creating wild seas and freezing conditions. I've got heaters going and the cats poked their noses briefly outside but decided, sensibly, that it's much warmer indoors. I refuse to go outside today, as well...all rugged up and staying warm!

The new haircut is pretty, if I might say so.

They gave us bandanas at work that when wetted remain cold. I'm sure the basis of their operation is some supercarcinogen but they work very well when placed around the neck.

So, Lee, it's winter in Australia when it's summer here? How odd it sounds to hear that you're freezing!

You certainly may say so, T.:-)

Good Lord, Kancer Kerchiefs?! You should at least try to get a purple one. I'm pretty convinced that purple fights zombies, vampires, and carcinogens.

When it's too hot to do anything, Me just sits in the middle of the road and watches the heat wave rise off the asphalt. Makes me feel as if me were on meds....

Stay cool and STOMPY!

The HEAT makes me feel like I'm on meds, Scary. LOL. Just watch out for cars. And sometimes cows.:-)

It's actually been quite chilly here at night. Much too chilly for willy-nilly midnight public nudity. Or would that be chilly-willy?

Serena said...

LOL, Camille. I do believe it would be chilly-willy. I think that if I took up the Midnight Ride, I'd want a quilted garter belt and fur-lined helmet.:-)

I definitely like Winter better.

Skivvies, now there is an interesting word, any idea on the history behind it?

Serena said...

You know, TC, I actually have no idea where the word skivvies comes from. Anyone know?

One thing you don't want to do in this heat is sloppily eat a bag of Cheetos while sitting naked on a white leather sofa.

Serena said...

I found that out the hard way, Puggy.:-)
