Deliver Me

Myspace Layouts

The times are tough now, just getting tougher
This old world is rough, its just getting rougher
Cover me, come on baby, cover me.

(Bruce Springsteen, "Cover Me")

With all the stuff I've been putting on my itchy red bumps, they were looking and feeling better last evening. And then ... my mother called with another dose of her drama queen nonsense. I was brushing it off pretty well until she "thanked" me for doing something "for her." Well, I had no choice but to stop her in her tracks. "Mother," I said in my most grown up voice. "I didn't do it for YOU. I did it for ______." Apparently, that little dose of truth threw her; she started stuttering. Perhaps I should have felt bad about that, but I didn't. She's such a narcissist that everything has to be about her. It makes me insane.

Afterwards, my itchies started screaming at me with a vengeance. Evidently, they absorbed the guilt for me. To attempt to appease them, I went and got in the bathtub with a LOT of bubbles. During a thunderstorm. Double-dog daring lightning to strike me. As you can see, I'm still here. Absolution.

Later, I went upstairs to get something, not realizing that the dog had followed me up the stairs. When I headed back down, I didn't bother to turn the light on and there she was, lurking on a step about halfway down. I didn't know she was there until I stepped on her. To avoid hurting her, I stumbled down two or three steps -- and banged the living daylights out of my ankle. It's all swollen and bruised, with a big lump on it. The dog just grinned as she watched me put ice on it. It still hurts, but not as much as it did last night. I wasn't going to speak to the dog today, but how can I not? She's so cute. And besides, she gave me a good excuse to lay around with a book today.

I'm always fascinated by the way we look in different lighting. Lately, I've seen myself look unnaturally pink and, by degrees, unnaturally tan, vampire white, zombie gray, sickly yellow, fish-belly white, and plain vanilla white. And now, of course, with the bad ankle, I can add black and blue. I am a rainbow.

Yikes, Roxan -- that's not a good place to be. So, um, where IS he?:-)

My money is on you, Trée. The crocs are toast.:-)

I'm sure your pup has deposited at least part of him outside somewhere. Hoffa Dog Food-With "special" meat. LOL

Serena Joy said...

Oh, yuck, Roxan. I'll be feeding this hound dry food today.:)

Roxan said...

Hoffa Dog Food comes in dry too with "special" meat sauce. Just add water to get Hoffa Gravy. Yum.

Serena Joy said...

And may I repeat -- Yuck!!

Maybe I'll just fix the dog a hotdog.:)

I was last seen arguing with a parrot. OMG!! How did it know that????? Eerie!!

Hope the ankle feels better, that's always painful!

Funny you should mention hot dogs!
Many parts of the Hoffa are edible.

This kind of reminds me of when I was little, I told my (adult) cousin, that he should paint his room flesh colored, then he could take off his clothes and be invisible. You'd just need a paisley wallpaper...

Serena Joy said...

Thanks, Se7en. Yeah, I know, it's weird how it knew about the parrot. These things are often too eerie for explanation.:-)

I can't even think about that, Roxan. I'm thinking maybe you shouldn't have taken that "other" quiz.:-)

That's funny, Charles. Although -- paisley wallpaper doesn't sound half bad.:-)

You should post a picture of the offender. I dig the doggy pictures.

If you'll scroll down the page, T, you'll see a picture of the little booger. It's true, though, that I do need some new pics of her. I should take one next time she gets a bath. That might embarrass her into behaving.:)

LOL, Pinks. Once again, I had it backwards. I played squash the ankle instead of squash the dog. It does feel a lot better now, thanks. And I swear -- for the umpteenth time -- that I will turn the light on the stairs on at night.:)

You know they do make small inexpensive electroluminescent lights you just plug into the socket, give off a pretty cool, cool blue green light, and cost only pennies per year to power. One at each end of the stairs should provide enough light to see something like a dog on the stairs. They are a lot cheaper than medical bills, and hurt a lot less.
The paisley colored lights aren't out yet. :D

Serena Joy said...

I like the idea of pretty blue-green lights, Charles. I should look into that since I never can remember to turn the light on. I'm thinking paisley lights might be a bit much, though.:)

When I had stairs SJ, I kept those tiny Christmas lights wrapped around the railings. It gave it a unique feel to the stairway. I would plug them in at night. Sorry to hear about your ankle. I hope you are better today. I was twitching reading about your fall.

Went digging through the drawers, found my old one, its an "INDIGLO" night-light, made by Austin Innovations, Inc. About 2-3/4" x 2-3/4" x 7/32" with and oval about 2-1/8" x 1-1/2" that actually lights up.
Energy Efficient Lighting and Night Lights - LimeLite.com
has examples, you should be able to find them locally, like at Homely Depot.

I love that idea, CD! I have about a jillion strings of little white lights, too. I just may string up my bannister tomorrow. Not to worry, the ankle's fine. I put some Myoflex on it and, woo-hoo, now I can go dancing. Okay, not really, but it is much better.

I love the sound of the Indiglo, too, Charles. And hey, it's an excuse to make a Homely Depot run.:-)

Have you read "I Has a Sweet Potato" yet?

Serena Joy said...

I hadn't seen that, LBB, and I love you for sending the link. I loved it! I needed the laughs, too. My doggie is apparently not a Sweet Potato Queen -- she won't eat sweet potatoes. Except french fried -- she loves those. As do I.:)

LOL, Galen. This puppy doesn't move for anything. She expects the world to move around her, and it usually does. Not so much insomniac tonight, just too damn busy to get to bed.:)

You're turning into the Job of the Blogsphere. Today I would be on the lookout for locusts.

Can you tell me where I can get a dog... I need some time to lay around with a good book...:-)

What a interesting way to view yourself in colours, Thank you.

Annie

Serena Joy said...

Probably so, Steve. That could explain why she throws such a fit every time one of the neighborhood cats tries to come in. LOL.

Thank you for the alert, Puggy. No locusts yet, but I'm on the lookout for frogs and festering boils.:-)

Good morning, Annie. I'll bet there's a pup at your local shelter with your name written all over it. When they're not busy trying to kill you, they make excellent foot rests, bed warmers, food tasters, alarm clocks, etc. Go for it, because they are also furry bundles of pure love.:)

I did very little blogging on the weekend so I missed this post about your injury.
Sorry to hear about your ankle.
My cats do the same thing except they wait until I'm carrying a big bag of dog food or something.
