Yes, Maybe I Do; No, I Won't

Some days, I am a raving cauldron of dichotomy. Don't worry, today is not one of those days. I know you all have them, though. There's no denying it. Aren't there times when you need want this, knowing it's bad for you? You want to do that, knowing you shouldn't. You want to go here, not there, see them, not them. Some days you want to do the right thing, other days right is the last thing you want to do.

There are days when one simply cannot accept what is right in front of one's own face. It's the elephant in the room, the hippo on the path. You know it's there, you know you have to respect its boundaries. You're pretty sure you have to accept it (because it just is), and yet there's a part of you that says, "Damn the elephant, it's not real." You might go on about your way, ignoring the elephant, defying the hippo, shaping reality to fit your needs at this moment (because sometimes now is the only thing that matters). You can get away with it for a while -- probably -- but you're eventually going to have to defer to the wildlife. Probably.Click to get cool Animations for your MySpace profile

This isn't morbid, it's just a good idea. It's a site developed in conjunction with a project focused on discovering and preserving old cemeteries.

I've always wondered why there wasn't some sort of centralized "clearing house" for those searching for missing people. All over the country, there are unidentified bodies lying in morgues. Some lie unclaimed for years. Finally, there's a site which collates information and makes it available for the public to search.

I'm living with an elephant in the room today and its very very painful. But thanks for this. I needed to hear it today.

Sometimes you wish you could ignore the elephant in the room because of what it says about oneself.

Regarding your last sentence, I know, Tania. Self-examination is hard sometimes, especially when you see what you see and wish you were seeing something else. I blame it on rogue elephants. Damn things invade our homes, steal our light (and sometimes our thunder), and suck up all our air. I hope your elephant vacates your premises pronto.

I'm going to make a tee shirt;

DEFY THE HIPPO!

I love it, Camille! You make it, I'll buy the first one.

It's been my experience that self-delusion is far more common than self-examination. It's amazing how many people blow sunshine up their own posteriors.

I think you're exactly correct, TFG. I do try to blow smoke up my skirt sometimes, but I'm not very good at fooling myself. It amazes me sometimes how many other people are successful at it.

One of my concepts for Sons Of Morrigan was based on the pictures of missing people who are never found. The idea that if they are killed by something we don't know exists, do we believe it happened.

Here's one especially for you, Serena, guess what a customer brought into work today? Hint: Poo flinger.

So many people vanish without a trace that, yes, I believe some of them could be killed by something beyond our comprehension.

Based on your hint, it couldn't have been anything but a monkey. You didn't taunt him, did you?:)

A couple came in with him wrapped in a baby blanket. My first thought was "Damn that baby's ugly." LOL

Serena said...

ROTFLMO! But -- didn't you think he was kind of cute? I mean, it was a baby MONKEY.:)

10 Cuties Said, "What?!" My sentiments, exactly. I have no idea what you're talking about today, but I do love the Over the Rainbow video you put up. I needed that! I think I'll watch it again.

Wait a second.

The LATE Israel Kamakawiwo"ole? What happened to him?

I think there might have been an elephant and a rhino in my cabin today. And I couldn't ignore either of them. I'll be glad when tomorrow comes and they've gone back to from whence they came.

Iz died in 1997 at age 38 of weight-related respiratory illness.

Hope the livestock has cleared out today, Lee.:)
