Peeping S-Jay

The spouse got the finger before 9:00 A.M. this morning. Not behind his back, either. Not a real good sign, huh? People can get upset by the strangest things, can't they? I know I do. I think (oh, gee, do you think, Serena?) all those "little things" are more than likely indicative of bigger underlying issues -- bigger than sharks, bigger than whales, bigger than friggin' cruise ships. Don't tell Dr. Freud I said that.

I have a new novel and a box of Peeps and I'd love to spend the day (which is chilly) laid up with Robert B. Parker. Alas, there's stuff I absolutely have to do. Since I have no fairy godmother and no legions of dwarves and elves at my beck and call, I guess I'd be the one who has to do it. Blech. I guess I'd best get at it. The sooner I get it done, the sooner I can crack open my book and rip the heads off a few Peeps. Actually, I have two boxes of the little buggers, one pink and one yellow. Maybe I'll mix them up and get them running scared before the massacre. Might as well keep it interesting.

4There are news reports, with varying degrees of credibility, that some dry pet foods are now suspect with regard to contamination.

Note: According to its Web site, Menu Foods manufactures no dry foods. As far as I know, no actual recalls have been effectuated, but it's another concern to keep an eye on. There are reports of animals that eat only dry food getting sick.

The Food and Drug Administration said Thursday it has issued a warning letter to Iams that says some of its diet pet foods contain an unapproved substance. Eukanuba Veterinary Diets Optimum Weight Control/Canine dry, Optimum Weight Control/Feline dry, Restricted-Calorie/Canine dry and canned, and Restricted-Calorie/Feline dry and canned contain chromium tripicolinate, which is not an approved food supplement, the FDA said.

All we can do until all these issues are resolved is be vigilant, be very cautious about what we feed our pets, and keep an eye on them for any symptoms of illness.

=UPDATE, 7:00 P.M.

One brand of Dry Cat food recalled.

Hill's Pet Nutrition has recalled Prescription Diet m/d Feline dry cat food made with contaminated wheat gluten.

Also, it's being reported that the contaminate in the gluten was not rat poison but melamine, which is used in making plastic.

The Food and Drug Administration said it found melamine in samples of the Menu Foods pet food involved in the original recall and in imported wheat gluten used as an ingredient in the company's wet-style products. Cornell University scientists also found melamine in the urine of sick cats, as well as in the kidney of one cat that died after eating some of the recalled food. Meanwhile, Hill's Pet Nutrition recalled its Prescription Diet m/d Feline dry cat food. The food included wheat gluten from the same supplier that Menu Foods used. The recall didn't involve any other Prescription Diet or Science Diet products, said the company, a division of Colgate-Palmolive Co. FDA was working to rule out the possibility that the contaminated wheat gluten could have made it into any human food. However, melamine is toxic only in high doses, experts said, leaving its role in the pet deaths unclear.

By the way, does anyone know where March went? Didn't this month just start? How can it be gone already? It can't possibly be the next to the last day of the month, can it? This is some premature April Fool's joke, that's what it is.

Here's an interesting Word Gone Wild I happened across: prostpective. What is that? Possibly a potential prosthesis? Some new kind of prospectus? Would a pirate with a wooden leg be a good candidate to buy what they're selling? Ah, geez, I'm rambling. That was not my intensions, to quote another word abuser I met along the way.

I'm not actually radiating a black aura today. What color is yours?

Your Psyche is Blue

You are deeply emotional and very connected to everything (and everyone) around you.
By simply understanding other people, you are able to help them heal and let go.
While you are a very deep and thoughtful person, you do have a very silly, superficial side.

When you are too blue: the weight of the world's problems hangs over you

When you don't have enough blue: you lack perspective and understanding

Sometime the finger is an act of love. An invite. This does not sound like one of those times. Personally I think it is because you bought your Peeps too soon. Monday is my Peep-day. Why spend three bucks on a box when they will be fifty cents on Monday?

Roxan said...

Peeps. Yuck. The only way to eat a marshmallow is it impale it on a stick and set it on fire. I might actually like flaming Peeps. I'll have to try that some day. Raw they are nasty.

Kanrei said...

Flaming Peeps? Are they the pink ones sold in San Fran?

Oh that was bad. I am sorry.

leelee said...

Hey MY Psyche is Blue too!

Flaming peeps? too funny!

It's jelly beans for me...I have been working on a bag of brachs for about a week...

there is no holding back on Robin's eggs out!!

Serena Joy said...

Too soon for Peeps, Kan? I don't think so! In fact, this is not the first batch I've slaughtered this year. I'm only paying a buck a box for mine, though. Apparently, Peeps are on the endangered list and way overpriced in Miami. LOL. I think there needs to be some legislation to legalize year-round Peeps hunting. Your interpretation of the meaning of the finger is spot on. It's probably good that it was ONLY the finger, since I don't know where the meat cleaver is hidden.:)

Roxan, you've given me an idea. I have a match and a stick. I'm having visions of Peeps Flambe. Flaming Peeps would be some mighty fine eating, I think. Do you think the pink ones would look better with their hair on fire?

Hey, Leelee, how's ScaryBoy this morning? Since you, too, have a blue psyche, I'm thinking this must be a damn fine color to have. I love those Robin's eggs, too, but I'm trying to lay off the habit. For a while. I'll probably buy some next week. They'd make a good second course with the Peeps entrée.:)

Your Psyche is Violet

You are spiritual, intuitive, and serene.
People trust you to rescue them from bad situations, and you usually come through.
While you are quite enlightened, you find that your path is very lonely.

When you are too violet: you can't connect to ordinary life or ordinary people

When you don't have enough violet: you lack wisdom and can't learn from the past

Shocking, but pretty right on.

Serena Joy said...

Ooooo, Deep Purple. Shockingly pretty. Lookin' good, Kan.

Will wonders never cease? Slap me on the backside and call me Flossie -- the spouse just apologized for yelling at me this morning. I didn't apologize for the sign language. He deserved it. In fact, he ought to get it more often.:)

Roxan said...

Kanrei and I are the same psyche color. Once again we match. LOL

Serena Joy said...

You two might as well face it -- you're soul mates.:)

MXI said...

My psyche is red...

I can't eat those pukes..I mean peeps.

Serena Joy said...

What does the red psyche mean, MXI? It's okay that you won't eat the Peeps; just means more for me.:)

tfg said...

I hope you two get things worked out. At least you didn't moon him. Oh, wait--that might not be a bad thing.

Blog-mates =D. I think each of us are way too happy single to ever even think about it.

***Your Psyche is Yellow***

You have a ton of energy - both physical and mental endurance.
You are rational and logical, and you can help almost anyone think clearly.
Optimistic and bright, you also have a secret side that's a little darker.

When you are too yellow: You will do anything to get your way, and no one will be the wiser

When you don't have enough yellow: you lack confidence, drive, and humor

I wish peeps were vegetarian (they contain Gelatin, which is you know--bits of cow stomach lining or something equally yuckoriffic).

ps (I meant yuckorriffic to a vegetarian. Sorry.)

Serena Joy said...

Not to worry, T, there was no mooning. I'd be afraid he'd like that.:)

Okay, then, Kan. But remember Mama Matchmaker is keeping an eye on y'all.

Oh, my, Littlebird, what a pretty aura you have!

I wish peeps were vegetarian (they contain Gelatin, which is you know--bits of cow stomach lining or something equally yuckoriffic).

That, I could have gone the rest of my life without knowing. Yuckoriffic, indeed! I may have to hold my nose when I eat my next Peep.:)

littlebirdblue said...

Sorry, SJ. I actually think gelatin is probably good for you, nutritionally speaking.

No reason to pass on my own particular 'issues'.

My weakness when it comes to Easter candy - Reese's Peanut Butter Eggs - especially the small bite-sized by the bag!
(They make Hearts for Valentines, Pumpkins for Halloween and trees for Christmas.) After Easter I have a long wait....

ThatGreenyFlower said...

Oh, such a provocative post!

First, the only way to eat Peeps is if they've been in the freezer for a few hours. YUM! (Then you don't taste the gelatin, LBB...I'm a veg too and I don't really fancy horse hooves and stuff, but I make exceptions from time to time...)

My favorite easter candy, hands down, is the sour Starburst jellybeans. I already finished my yearly bag. They probably have gelatin too, but the citric acid probably breaks it down into its basic proteins so it's not REALLY like eating animal parts.

And I'm blue, too, SJ. My aura, I mean.

Serena Joy said...

So, then, Jello actually contains gelatinous bits of cow stomach lining? Heh. I never knew that. We probably wouldn't want to know what's actually in a lot of our food.

Oooo, yes, Mike, those peanut butter eggs are delicious. I didn't buy any, which is not to say I won't before all is said and done.

Peepsicles, Greeny? There's a concept! I wouldn't want to chip a tooth biting their heads off, though. I can just see those beady little eyes laughing about that.

I think these blue auras of ours are pretty.:)

Lee said...

I'm a "Red"...and so is my shirt!

I hope you got to start reading your book, Serena! I've never heard of "Peeps"...they must be a US thingie.

Serena Joy said...

I did get in some reading time, Lee. You Red people must have some darn scintillating background attached to your auras because you aren't telling us what it means. LOL.

You don't have Peeps in Australia? Oh, the ignominy of it! Yellow Peeps are little sugar-coated marshmallow chicks. The pink ones are bunnies. I have no idea why I love the silly things so much.

MXI said...

knowing what the red means doesn't matter, all you need to know is don't mess with the red auras!!!!!!

Corn Dog said...

I'm with Lee.
Your Psyche is Red
You are bright, bold, energetic, and intense.
Your upbeat, zany energy inspires those who are down.
Spontaneous and playful, you also have a courageous and fearless side.

When you are too red: you are angry, overprotective, and truly scary.

When you don't have enough red: you are depleted and lifeless.

Sometimes I think these quizes are surprisingly accurate. I think you should soak the Peeps in Brandy then flambe the buggers.

Steve G said...

This is the first time I've heard of a Peep. I guess I have been in Germany too long.

Serena Joy said...

Aw, but MXI, I have so much fun messing with you.:) Corn Dog let the cat out of the bag about what Red means. You Reds are some very cool and together people.

Steve, no Peeps in Germany? That's awful!

Brandy as starter fluid? I like it, Corn Dog. I'm going to flambe a mess of them. Peeps Jubilee.:)

Liz said...

I thought it was just me who didn't know what a peep was. And I was scared to say in case it was an early April Fool's joke that I hadn't got!

(It's not, is it?)

Serena Joy said...

No joke, Liz. Apparently, the UK is deprived of these sweet, puffy little confections. You can see what they are at this site:

JL4 said...

I shut down the psyche site. Apparently, they weren't prepared for an aura that vascilates from red to black, with a touch of mauve and teal in the center. I received a text box asking me, "Have you sought counseling?"

Is it trying to tell me something?

Serena Joy said...

Ooooh, look at all JL4's pretty colors. Sites like these have flashbacks sometimes and shut down temporarily. They go sing 'Kumbaya' for a bit and then they come on back.
