Comfort Colors

Littlebirdblue mentioned the "Goth" look yesterday, which got me to thinking (which isn't always such a dangerous thing). I like black, perhaps a little too much. I took stock of my wardrobe over the weekend since it was time to toss out some articles I haven't worn in ages and knew I'd never wear again. I needed the hangers. What struck me is how much black I have. My winter clothes tend to range from black and gray to various hues of brown. Some of them are interspersed with color by way of plaids, prints, and trims, and I do have several multi-hued plaid items. For summer wear, I love pastels and I have them in every shade of the rainbow. My winter wardrobe is overwhelmingly black, though.

I’m wearing black today – black skirt, tights, and shoes, but the look is softened by a beaded white sweater. I love beads and bangles; must be the Gypsy or princess in me. I do try to avoid unrelieved black. If I’m wearing black pants or skirt, I’ll generally wear a light colored top.

I like skirts, in black or any other color. I tend to wear pants more in the winter, though, simply because they’re so easy. If I’m wearing a skirt, that means a slip if it’s unlined and … the dreaded pantyhose or tights. It takes much less time to just zip up a pair of pants and go.

I must have half a dozen pairs of black pants, and that’s not including jeans and Capris. Pants come in so many styles and, of course, the style one prefers on a given day may depend on one’s mood. There are pleated fronts and flat fronts, straight-leg, wide-leg, skinny-leg, cuffed, Capri pants, etc., etc. I loathe wide-leg pants and don’t own any. If I’m feeling bloated on a particular day, I’m probably not going to choose the tapered skinny-leg pants. Those are my favorites, though.

Anyway… I wear a lot of black because I like black. If I ever start wearing white makeup and black lipstick, somebody please do something about me because I am way too old to even think about going Goth.

What is your inner blood type?

Your Inner Blood Type is AB!

Your personality is hard to define - you're very unconventional.
And even if your personality could be defined, it would be completely different next week!
Outgoing and shy, sensitive and thoughtless, you tend to have a very split personality.
This makes you unpredictable. You can be a total angel - and a total devil.

You are most compatible with: everyone!

Famous Type AB's: Jackie Chan and Marilyn Monroe

What about being a mime?

You live in the north I am assuming. Every northerner I know has too much black. Must be a yankee thing.

I live in VA -- BELOW the Mason-Dixon Line. I am a Southern girl to the core and have the magnolia blossoms to prove it.:)

I do mime occasionally. It involves one finger and a bunch of facial contortions.

I'm in serious trouble. Britney and Hilter? Does that mean one day I'll shave my head and try to invade England?
I am type A. Blood type that is.

Are you the pervert for saying that or am I for what I read?

Virginia? North enough. Yankee =P

I got someone else's blood I think:

Your Inner Blood Type is Type B

You follow your own rules in life, even if you change the rules every day.
Sure, you tend to be off the wall and unpredictable, but that's what makes you lovable.
And even though you're a wild child, you have the tools to be a great success.
You are able to concentrate intently - and make the impossible possible.

Britney Spears and Hilter? Great company +P

Kan, I don't see it as perverted. I do it every day -- often TO perverts.:)

Hey, you called me the "Y" word. Them's fightin' words. You gonna take it back?

Roxan, if you do shave your head and invade England, I've got your back. LOL.

Kan, if you have somebody else's blood on your hands, then you're more Goth than I am. LOL.

I swear, all this talk of Britney and Hitler and shaved heads is scaring me. Do you suppose Britney will grow a funny little mustache? Is this the end of the world as we know it? Stay tuned as we wade through bunnies and vampires and ferret out the answers.

Serena said...

I like you, too, Leelee.:) So, do you want to be a lieutenant or something in this upcoming invasion of England? We don't have to shave our heads, but we do have to wear bunny slippers.

Unknown said...

I will take some of it back. You admit to having a full black winter's closet so....

Unknown said...

Roxan,
You will only shave half your head and bother England. France on the other hand is in trouble.

DRESS UP! I love to play on-blog dress-up. Today, I'm wearing 1930's swiss army pants (high-waist, cigarette-pant buttonfly), 1950's patterned wool knee socks (it's -20 f here today!!! and the sun is shining, even!!!), and a late 1950s/early '60s dark-red Pendleton turtleneck with that little vintage zipper up the back of the neck.

As always, I've got a few random scattered bits of jewelry--all silver today (skinny bangles, one chain)--except my antique mine-cut diamond ring from S (it's the one his great grand-daddy's brother gave his wife in 1932).

O, and a sailor-toque, 'cause it's effing cold.

I want to know what other people are wearing...please.

Ok I am def in with the bunny slippers...and I know the language so perhaps i can talk directly with the natives..I think in England they pronounce it "Leftenants" Oh and I can even do the accent..this is gonna be fun!

Roxan and I are on the same page today.

Leelee of the bunny slippers!

More!

Littlebird, your outfit today sounds très chic! I can't wear turtlenecks -- they make me so uncomfortable I can't function. I think my head must have been cut off in a previous life or something. Moving on... I love jewel-neck sweaters with the little back zippers; I have bunches of those. Your ring sounds gorgeous!

I love dress-up, too, and I think we ought to make it a regular feature on somebody's blog so we can always know what everybody else is wearing. I'll do it if nobody else wants to.

Leelee, you are on. Somebody who knows the language should definitely be the leftenant. Do you want the infantry? This may end up an all-girl invading force because I'll bet the men don't have any bunny slippers.

Camille, the slippers won't clash with your Swiss Army pants, will they? They might look better with the sailor pants.

Ooo, this IS going to be fun.

SJ

well, there's something a little depressing about living in a village this small and under five feet of snow and not going to work or school and there being no place to hang out or people to meet...I really can't wait to get to Portland.

Here, it's just me and the dogs. And S at night, when he gets home from work...and the computer, of course. It's not so much fun having cool clothes when the dogs and boy and computer have proven they don't care whether I get dressed in the morning or not.

I always do, though. It's a slippery slope, I think, wearing slippers and sleepy-pants all day because your fictional characters are the only people you talk to all day as you write.

Camille Alexa said...

P.S.

I'll start having dress-up blog posts about once a week--how's that?

Serena said...

I always get dressed when I stay home -- unless I'm really sick, which is rare. Very, very casually, though, with slippers or flip-flops and no jewelry.

Dress-up once a week or so sounds perfect to me, Camille.

Camille Alexa said...

I'm really sick today [unhappy-face icon here]. And did I already mention it was -20? Oh yeah, guess I did.

Lee said...

I'm a bit of a black freak, too...but I have various other colours...mostly earthy colours and red!

Sorry I've been a bit slack, Serena...have been busy. :)

Serena said...

Poor Littlebird. I hope you're feeling better today. If not, this might be a good day to stay in your PJs, with maybe some fluffy slippers.

Hi, Lee. (waving) You're a busy, busy woman so it's always good to see you.

Liz Hinds said...

I have lots of black too. And a twitchy thumb, but that's neither here nor there.

I'm up for the invasion of England. You can stop off here on the way and eat. You'll need your victuals.

Today I am wearing a pale pink satin ballgown with lots of net under the skirt. I am also wearing yeti slippers and woolly mittens without fingers. My hair is in two bunches tied up with yellow ribbon that I untied from an old oak tree I passed.

I didn't put any jewellery on as I thought that might be over-glamming the cherry.

Serena said...

OMG, Liz, I am so jealous of your pink ball gown. And Yeti slippers! With those, you don't need jewelry. Sometimes less is more. Not very often, but sometimes. Thanks for offering to join -- and feed! -- the troops. Are you going to be able to shoot straight in that poufy dress, though? I think I'll put you up front, carrying the battle flags.

Can't wait for the summer so I revert to my comfortable attire of choice:

plaid Henley shirt, madras bermudas, black socks and sandals -
- didn't know I was a fashion plate, eh?

Serena said...

Oh, no, no, Mr. Fashion Plate! You wouldn't. Would you? Perhaps the Bunny Brigade had better send the SWAT team by your place before we head out to conquer England.:)

leelee said...

Ok, I can handle the infantry...wait did that come out right? ~blush~

WHEN IS THE DRESS UP PARTY AND WHERE..??

Yay now I can go shopping with a purpose!!

Serena said...

I kind of had dibs on the infantry, Leelee, but that's okay. I heard the cavalry is more fun. LOL.

The dress-up party today is on Littlebirdblue's blog, and we'll be playing here from time to time, too. So, go ahead and tell -- what are you wearing?

There are lots of things I need a purpose for, but never shopping. It just comes naturally.:)

Liz Hinds said...

Serena, I wouldn't wear my ballgown to invade England! For that it would be my Power Rangers jim-jams.

Serena said...

Oooo, Power Rangers! They'd definitely fear us, wouldn't they? Still, I'm wondering if maybe we all shouldn't wear ball gowns to the invasion. Catching them off guard might be a good tactic. LOL.
