Twirl Me, Thrill Me

I spent nearly half an hour searching for a definitive list of the Top Ten Love Songs of all time. What I found is that everyone has a completely different take on this -- which just goes to show that there really are different strokes for different folks. I've seen lists with really, really old songs. I saw lists that were mostly Soul or R&B or, God forbid, Hip-Hop. Some of the songs on some of the lists, I've never even heard of. Some of the nominations for all time best that I agree with include "Wonderful Tonight" (Eric Clapton), "Take My Breath Away" (Berlin), and "Dance With Me" (Orleans). One that made most of the lists, and one of my own personal favorites, is "Unchained Melody" (The Righteous Brothers). God, that song was just made for slow dancing.

Since I can't find an actual list I'm satisfied with, we're going to have to make up our own. Please add your own nomination(s) for the Top Ten Love Songs and let's see what kind of list we can come up with.

There's never a dearth of Words Gone Wild, and today was no exception. Here's what I picked up and turned over to Twisted Linguistics.

not bad perse - Not really a hideously ugly pocketbook.

achived - Dish garnished with chives.

materal - Madonna's mothering instincts.

inplanted - What they do with implants; i.e., plant them in there.

wroitng - A decaying manuscript.

My bangs were too long and driving me berserk, so I whacked them off a little last night. Now I think they're too short. I can't win.

For a little more Valentine'sY fun, here's how to "see" your future lover:

For centuries, St. Valentine's Eve (that's tonight) has been considered a magical night. Traditionally, this was believed to be the day when the birds would begin to sing again. And you already know what that means. Foods associated with romance were gathered and prepared and, on that night, people so inclined performed various and sundry rituals to induce prophetic dreams, hoping to see their future lover. To do that, they say you should put three white-candy coated almonds beneath your pillow before going to sleep. Concentrate hard and say:

Almonds, symbol of love and fertility,
Let me see who my lover will be.

Then, without thinking of any specific person, go to sleep and have sweet dreams.

I tried it. I didn't see a damn thing except the squirrel trying to steal my almonds.

How are you in love? Like all of these quizzes, this one's hit or miss -- some of it's halfway accurate, some of it isn't.

How You Are In Love

You fall in love quickly and easily. And very often.

You tend to give more than take in relationships.

You need your space and privacy. You don't like to be smothered.

You love your partner unconditionally and don't try to make them change.

You are fickle and tend to fall out of love easily. You bounce from romance to romance.

Pugsy, that's a fabulous list. You have wonderful taste in music. But -- but
"Sugar, Sugar?" And I think I might be tempted to move "Wicked Game" to the top of the list.

Yes, I'll bet you can hold your own, black diamonds or no.:)

Oh the shame.

More great songs, Kan. They're maybe not all "love songs" (the ones that make you want to, you know, get busy), but great songs nonetheless.

PS- You said no more evil posts

Sometimes I lie.:)

S'okay on the Atlanta thing; I knew what you meant.

Some of us are alone and want to....

To quote Dave Attel- Masterbation can be romantic- sometimes I light a candle.

Well. Just don't forget to blow it out. It's hell when the bed goes up in flames.:)

Have a great Black Wednesday btw. I have a feeling I should avoid your "Love Land" blog tomorrow for my own sanity. Too much sweetness will make me diabetic.

Enjoy your huzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzbun and have a wonderful day.

Why, tomorrow I might talk about Borat, or Boraq Obama. Or the problem of gerrymandering. Maybe even malaria. Keeps you guessing, doesn't it?

Enjoy your huzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzbun

Oh, you had to go and ruin it for me, didn't you? LOL.

Corn Dog said...

I'm begging you not to talk about Borat. PUH-LEEEEEZE.

I have been reading your posts every day but like a dingus it occurs to me I must RUN OUT NOW and buy something for my hubby for Valentines. What? What? What? I'm looking around the room frantic-like. Oh bother. I HATE these organized holidays. I have to walk to the grocery. Maybe I'll get him a pack of hotdogs. He loves hotdogs. He thinks they are an aphrodisiac.

Serena said...

Duly noted, CD. I don't know what I'd say about Borat, anyway. Can anyone in the free world not spell D-O-O-F-U-S? (I can answer that question because, yes, I have duct-taped to my forehead my brand spankin' new 15-minute degree from Corn Dog U.)

About the emergency V-Day gift -- darling girl, you're not THINKING. The Hubbs acknowledges your sovereignty, right? I mean, he does call you Queen Corn Dog. Thus, do not buy him a pedestrian pack of weinies. Buy him -- an uptown pack of CORN DOGS! Trust me (they don't call me the Love Goddess for nothing, you know) -- give him corn dogs and he will worship and obey you.

Meanwhile, I think we have to do something about these freakin' organized holidays so we don't have to go through this again next year.

***How You Are In Love***

You take a while to fall in love with someone. Trust takes time.

You give and take equally in relationships.

You tend to get very attached when you're with someone. You want to see your love all the time.

You love your partner unconditionally and don't try to make them change.

You stay in love for a long time, even if you aren't loved back. When you fall, you fall hard.

Serena said...

Those are all great qualities, Roxan. I'd have trouble with the "want to see your love all the time" one; I think I have "suffocation" issues.

Serena said...

SOME of my top Luv Songs, but by no means all. It's hard to try and pick only 10 out of a whole lifetime of great music. And I'm not including anything that's on anybody else's list.

More Than This, Roxy Music

White Wedding, Billy Idol

Stand By Me, Ben E. King

Best of My Love, The Eagles

Lookin' Out the Window, Stevie Ray Vaughan

Angel, Dave Matthews Band

Brown-Eyed Girl, Van Morrison

Light My Fire, The Doors

The Waiting, Tom Petty

Somewhere Only We Know, Keane

That love quiz sounded like a quiz for nascent stalkers.

1) Mad About the Boy Dinah Washington

2) At Last Etta James

3) Golden Earring Peggy Lee

4) Son of a Preacher Man Dusty Springfield

5) Norwegian Wood The Beatles

6) My Buddy Chet Baker

7) My Funny Valentine Chet Baker

8) Rocky Raccoon The Beatles (sorry--I think it's hot)

9) Thou Swell Blossom Dearie

10) TIE I Never Loved A Man (The Way I Love You) & Baby I Love You both by Aretha Franklin

I will point out for the record that these songs were all recorded before I was born.

rkfinnell said...

I do have issues with that myself and with the last part. You know those are NOT me. LOL

It does, doesn't it? Ooo, "At Last." I love that.

I will point out for the record that these songs were all recorded before I was born.

ALL of them, Littlebird? My God, you're a child, aren't you?:)

LOL! I know, Roxan.

AOL is reading my mind. They just produced a list of the 69 Sexiest Songs of All Time. You can read it here:

http://music.aol.com/feature/sexiest-songs-list-1

Some of them I don't agree with at all, but I think Nellie Furtado is a doll and "Promiscuous" is hot-hot.

I don't think your 'bangs' are too short, Serena...anyway, your hair won't take long to grow. Great pic of you, by the way.

I can't imagine anyone thinking 'hip/hop' is romantic! Yuck!

Serena said...

Thank you, Lee. My hair does grow fast, kind of like kudzu.

Serena said...

Thank you, Mike. If my hairdresser yells at me next time I see him (he'll say it looks like I took a weed whacker to my head), I'll point out your and Lee's comments. LOL.

And thanks for more excellent additions to the list. Great stuff! It makes me want to slow dance.

Hey, I loved the Victor Borge bit. I haven't inflated myself yet, but I'm about to.:)

Yeah, it is a great picture. You look gorgeous.

I ran to the store before reading your comment. I could KICK myself. I should have gotten corn dogs. Instead I got the cheap bouquet of flowers and then added some yard ones in with it. It made a huge beautiful bunch. I had them on his desk when he got home. Poor thing has been trying to do our taxes for days now.

Hi serena. I'm really glad you like the photos. I'll be posting some older stuff in the near future. Drop by and tell me what you think.
Top ten love songs???

My attemps at displaying anything romantic always end up a mess. Maybe I'll take the little pugs advice and try his selections this year.

Thanks to you all for the bang support. Now my head doesn't feel so weed-eaten -- or my forehead so naked.

CD, hubbs will like the flowers -- even if he can't eat them.

NYD, I certainly will.

Love 'ya, too, Quid.

Thanks for another great jam list, Lesia. The joint is rocking out now.

Happy Valentine's Day to you all. Mwhahaha.
