In A Fog ... But Liking It

I had some errands to run this morning. It rained overnight and is overcast today, so I figured it would be chilly out. Nope. It's still abnormally warm -- windows-down warm. It's January. This is unnatural. Not that I'm complaining. This works ever so much better for me than bitter cold. As I was out and about, the mountaintops were hidden from view, shrouded in tattered banners of swirling fog. Gauzy wraiths of fog were also rising from the river, undulating with joyful abandon to their own secret rhythm in the gray light. It's an eerie sight to the uninitiated, I'm sure. I'm used to it, though, and I love it.

Last summer, when my mother was "dying again," she had me pack up a bunch of old photos, documents, and other memorabilia in a suitcase and take it home with me. I'm ashamed to say that I'm just now beginning to sort through it all. And my God, what a treasure trove it is! (By the way, I just saw my mother this morning and she's perfectly fine.) This is my absolute favorite photograph of those I've looked through thus far. It's dated August 4, 1937, and depicts my grandparents and their three children. The little girl sitting on my granddaddy's lap is my mother.

That is just beautiful. Your description oozes off the page and into my mind's eye. I am in awe.

What a sweet thing to say, Kan. Thanks.

Me likes to look at old pics of Me grandparents as young adults rather than Mom and Dad monster. It seems easier to imagine grandma as a young woman than it is to see me Ma.
Looks like a nice place to grow up. You must've come from good stock, SJ (Scribbling Jouster)

What a wonderful picture. So sharp. Almost like you can peek at their personalities.

It's almost a bit like time travel to me, SM, when I see these old pictures. My first actual memory of my grandmother is of a plump lady with white hair.

CD, I had to work with adjusting the sharpness after I scanned it in since it was a bit faded. It really is a peek into the past. My grandma was about 25 years old in that picture, and it sets my imagination afire wondering what she was thinking, what her hopes and dreams were, yada yada yada.

Thank you, Steve. I'm thinking about posting some others that I've inherited.
