Faith, Hope, and ... Starlite?

It’s hard getting back to work, back into the swing of things, after the holidays. I worked only two days last week, and work only two days this week. God, I need to be independently wealthy. I like getting up whenever I darn well feel like it instead of when an alarm clock tells me I have to. I much prefer doing what I want to do, exactly when I want to do it, instead of adhering to a schedule. Business is pretty dead right now, which means I’m pretty bored. If I were at home, I could be doing something ... interesting.

My boss and I were wondering about something this morning. If someone calls and tells us one of our clients is hearing voices, let alone the voice of God, we get the ball rolling to schedule them a commitment hearing. Pat Robertson gets a voice message directly from God's lips and he gets fifteen more minutes on TV. Odd.

Oprah Winfrey has endowed (and now opened) a school for disadvantaged girls in South Africa – because she promised Nelson Mandela she would do it. The question I’m hearing a lot is, what about the untold numbers of children in this country who could (and would no doubt love to) benefit from such noblesse oblige? There are young girls in gangs, in juvenile facilities, on the streets, in untenable home environments who could actually blossom and flourish in such a school. The consensus I’m hearing is cliché but true: charity should begin at home.

Today’s anti-lesson in Twisted Linguistics.

treets – Food for virtual pets.

coeague – The fever that killed the Coe family.

rumouir – Gossip, yes, cherie?

moinday – A request for more racing on the first day of the week.

vaslve – Salve for vassals.

puuled – A muscle injury that has turned gangrenous and smells bad.

Click here to find out what your celebrity baby name would be. I kind of like mine. In fact, I’m thinking right now of having all my legal documents changed.

Things are slow here as well. Not many patients yet, but that is probably due to them being on vaca right now. Boring as all hell right now at work.

Someone asked why is G-d not talking to Bush anymore about these things. Remember Bush saying he got advice from a higher father?

Oprah is a celebrity like all others. Celebs seem to use Africa to gain press in the world. To take care of America is nothing to the world because we are viewed as a rich nation so they must help Africa to suck up. Angelina Jolie is not a celeb who helps Africa, she is a B-actress who got fame by helping Africa. Oprah wants the good will of the world and she has bought it for a school.

P.S.- Hi Starlite

Signed Jaz Rebel

Hey, Jaz Rebel, I'll trade 'ya.:)

I don't know what the deal is with celebs and Africa. I know this -- now that everybody knows Africa is the in place to draw some attention to yourself, they'll all be doing it. The good news is, maybe some of them will stay.

I actually had a debate with a friend of mine about this very subject the other day. He thinks that as long as they are helping then that is good. I said maybe, but if they are using Africa's poverty as a prop for their own egos and fame then are they really helping by giving a few speeches and throwing some money? But I am an isolationist. A liberal one, but one just the same. When there are no problems left here we can start helping others, but right now we keep helping places that we only have to invade 20 years later.

God knows, most of the African nations need all the help they can get. They need so much, though, that real aid can come only from governments. When some show-biz personality goes over there to spread a little folding money or adopt one of millions of disadvantaged children, it's essentially lip service. It amounts to no more than a drop in the bucket and it's not serving the greater good, though it does seem to prop up the celebs' egos. If they really want to help, they ought to stay home and think up some new and innovative ways of raising LOTS of money from LOTS of people, and then disburse it where it will do the most good.

Moxie Honey. Now that's a name I could learn to love although it does sound kind of like a stripper's name. LOL

I agree that charity begins at home.

Hey! We can agree one this, if Bradjolina wants to kidnap babies, they should stay here in the U.S. and do it....we have plenty of poor right here....

Celebrities are laughable bufoons....

Hey, SM, it's good to see you back.:)

Indeed, small stones can make big ripples. Sometimes, they even boomerang into tsunamis. All help is, of course, a good thing. It does seem to me, though, that those with the resources to help in a big way might want to consider doing so closer to home.

If you told me you hear voices, I'd have to inform you that that's pretty cool -- but I'm not allowed to talk about mine. I be in big trouble if your voices start talking to mine.

Damn, Roxan, they pegged you. You've got more moxie than practically anybody I know. Honey.

Rex, yours kind of fits as well. So, okay, you didn't get the mondo exotic Apple, but you do have a healthy interest in science. If you think of "august" in terms other than the month of August, you came off looking pretty good.

Tulipe Raine here and I used my read name not rain. Hey I should try rain.

Just my opinion but I think helping others is always good and sometimes we are drawn to certain charities and groups for unknown or personal reasons.

I always want to help animals and some would say it would be better for me to use my energy to help people, but I am drawb to help animals for some reason.

I was born in August (the 8th) so its does fit!.....My first love is science, over sports and politics...

Rain, how delicious that you still got Rain using your real name!

I'm the same way with the animal causes. I support (though the donations are smaller these days) so many shelters that I have drawers full of free calendars, labels, notepads, etc.

I was "Heaven Melody"
very cool :)

I understand Oprah's choice in SA- I've met some of those children. I never saw poverty- or death- like I saw it there.
I was in Soweto...in SA- and still can't get my mind around the things I saw. Words just can't describe it...

No one in the US- unless they are abused kids kept in a box (which does happen- ick!) live the way the black children in SA do-
It is heartbreaking- really...
