All Messed Up and Nowhere to Go

If you think you're leading a pretty messed up existence, here's what you ought to do: read a Carl Hiaasen novel. I'm reading "Nature Girl," and am now about halfway convinced that my dysfunctional gang is actually pretty darned normal. I don't think anybody writes more screwed up characters than Hiassen, and they're so hysterically funny that you could find yourself sitting around wishing that you were crazier.

This is why I never seem to get any of my own writing done. I spend too much time amusing myself reading other peoples' writing. And I've reached the conclusion that it doesn't matter. If I never sell another piece, so what? Enjoying life is more important than grabbing at goals that may or may not be achievable. I may change my mind about that tomorrow. Or next week. Or whenever that wild hair grabs me. Today, I'm doing what I damn well please.

I had to do some clean-up around here this morning. A couple of rainy days with pets and people in and out definitely leaves a trail. If you lay down with pigs, while they will like it, you're going to get up stinking to high heaven. Sometimes there's just nothing for it but to get busy and clean it up. I did just enough that things look okay and smell good. Shortly, I'm going to grab a cold Coke and my book and head for the back porch, because it's HOT outside. It's freaky as hell, but I am NOT complaining.

Just to keep you on your toes, here's a few Twisted Linguistics for your amusement.

unfortantly - I'm stumped on this one and leave its definition up to you.

fanticies - The dreams of groupies.

maderang - Dialed number, made ding on other end.

I have been writting - Please stop that!

at his ends wits - And now we know with which end this person thinks.

funneir - Again, no clue. Suggestions?

revieved - It was reanimated, but at what cost?

purcased - A cut-rate painkiller.

relinquised - ?

Truth or Dare, anyone?

You Are a Dare Devil

For you, life is one big dare.
And you're all in for any adventure.
Others find you exciting, inspiring, and a bit intimidating.
You're biggest challenge at this point is trying to top yourself!

I am a dare devil too. Funny I don't think of myself that way.
I know what you mean about the mudd!

"Enjoying life is more important than grabbing at goals that may or may not be achievable." Amen to that. If I could only remember it.

I'll have to get Nature Girl. I love crazy dysfunctional. Makes me think my crew is normal.

I don't think of myself as a daredevil, either, Rain. I try really hard to pass myself off as a grownup, but I guess the quiz saw right through us. LOL.

Corn Dog, if you like totally wacked out humor, you'll enjoy that book. If you haven't read Hiassen before, you'll love him.

Good job, Mayden! And great fun. Maybe you'd like to have a go at the other couple that stumped me?:)

You Are Bold And Brave

But daring? Not usually?
You tend to like to make calculated risks.
So while you may not be base jumping any time soon...
You are up for whatever's new and (a little) exciting!

When we read, we don't write.

Hell, SJ there are just some weekends when it's all about other people's books.

"The Road" by Cormac McCarthy. Finally got around to it. It's like a diamond, if you haven't gotten to it yet. Hugs, Flamingo

Heh. You'd think bold & brave would put you on the daredevil list, Rex.:)

So true, Quid. Writing is work, while reading is pure enjoyment/escapism. Enjoy 'The Road.'
