To Flee the Flu?

Have you had a flu shot yet? If not, do you plan to get one? Apparently, they -- whoever they are -- really, really want us to have them. A strip club in Florida is even giving them gratis to senior gentlemen.

I've never had a flu shot, and don't plan to start now -- and not just because I hate needles. I've heard tales from too many people about getting sicker from the shot than they probably would have from the actual flu. My credo has always been, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." If I've ever actually even had the flu, it amounted to little more that a couple of days of sniffles, slight fever, and "balloon head." Maybe the swine flu would be worse, maybe not. I'm still not going to tempt fate and get the shot. So far, the odds have been in my favor. Granted, I'm not getting any younger, but why mess with the odds at this late date?

What about you guys? Shot, or no shot?

I was talked into a shot once, only because the nurse convinced me it contained Raquel Welch in a mini-sub. Which turned out to be a lie, because in she WERE in the mini-sub, it would never be able to submerge. Even since, I've been sceptical of the medical trade.

Not planning to get any shots in the near future. The last time the swine flu was around the problems came from the shot not the flu. I think I heard over 4,000 ended up disabled because of the shot. That's too many. Way too many.

But your shots are life-saving and necessary, Galen, unlike the flu shot. No shot for me, and I'm betting I'll stay well.:)

Well, under the circumstances, I don't blame you, Pugsley. That nurse lied to you and deserves your skepticism. So, are you still searching for Raquel?;)

That's my thinking, Roxan -- more risk than it's worth. If I get the flu, I know what'll happen, and it ain't much. We don't know, on the other hand, what's in the shot and what it might do.:)

i never had one until i turned 55. imagine - all those years in the navy and i managed to avoid flu shots! i discussed it with our doc -- he convinced me that as we age our susceptibility to things (such as the various types of the flu) increases - and the flu shot was one way to help yourself not get sick. so i've had 3 now. can't say they've ever made me sick, ain't had the flu either....who knows...ya do what's right for you....

I hope your good luck with the shots continues, Don. If it's working for you, then that's a good thing.:)

I've had a flu shot about 5 times; got the full-blown flu three weeks later, once. Got an annoying upper respiratory thing once. Got through two cold and flu seasons scotch-free (hate the stuff, anyway).

It'll be a coin-flip this year, since I'm already sick.

When you say you're already sick, Skunk, I hope you don't mean you have the flu. Feel better soon!:)

Amen sistah. I'm not getting one either, nor am I subjecting my chilis to getting one. I've never gotten one before and I'm not starting now. I rarely get sick to the point that I am bedridden--the last time was two years ago and it was actually from a spider bite--not the flu. I don't think I've even ever had the flu. So unless they have spider bite shots, I'm gonna risk it.

I'm with you 100%, Miss Snow. It's been a long, long time since I've been bedridden, too. I shudder in horror at the thought of spider bites, but I'm not scared of a little flu.:)
