A Slight Taste of Autumn. Yum!

There's suddenly a subtle hint of Fall in the air and I'm loving it. The days are not only getting exponentially shorter, but they've been quite a bit cooler of late. Which is not to say that we're done with heat and humidity, because we'll certainly bake and sweat again before true Autumn arrives. For now, the nights, with temperatures in the 50s and 60s, are simply divine sleeping weather -- not too hot and not too cold. Soon, it will be time to switch out my wardrobe and bring out the long sleeves and the occasional sweater. We all have our little winterizing rituals around our homes and, soon enough, it will be time to perform those. Here, unless there's some diametric change to the typical pattern, we'll continue to see warm weather through October and probably into November. We won't see any real cold much before Christmas, and then everything will pretty well go downhill 'til March or so.

By mid-October, the Fall foliage will be a blaze of Technicolor, the mountain vistas a kaleidoscope of reds and oranges and golds of varying hues. With each step, we'll hear the crisp crunch of leaves underfoot. My dog adores a pile -- any pile -- of leaves and will dive into every one she sees if I don't stop her. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. She deserves a little doggie fun.

It's a bit early, but the nights are getting cool enough that I'm getting a premature taste for such Fall fare as baked ham and fried apples, hot biscuits, cornbread, pumpkin bread and pumpkin pie, and hot chocolate.

Spring and Fall are my favorite seasons. I'd think my world had achieved perfection if fall led into Spring, followed by Fall, which erupted into Spring, which faded gently into Fall -- and so on and so on.

Happy Early Fall, and Happy Monday.

Your favorite season is Sprall?

Good word, Galen - Sprall. That's what I want! No extreme hot or cold, just the perfection of ... Sprall. Watch what you say about redheaded stepchildren, now.:)

Back at you, SJ. We had a two or three day tease of cooler weather, 60's at night, down here in the Louisiana swamps (par for the course), then rain and BAM! back to 150% humidity and high 80's. Oh, well. I still have something to look forward to. I haven't been to Chattanooga to see the grand-ones in over a year, so I maxed out my credit cards and made reservations for us to fly up there for a week in December. Mary Mace will be SIX on Christmas Eve. Can you believe that and Warner is 2 1/2?!!! I'm getting old. LOL! Spring and Fall are my favorites, too. Both are full of promise of better things to come. Blessings!

Any season that encourages human sacrifice in order to either ensure or express gratitude for a bountiful harvest is fine by me.

Hey, Miss Princess Dragonfly. As much as I love the Louisiana swamps, I don't for a minute envy you the heat and humidity. It was about this time of year last time I was in New Orleans and, child, I mean to tell you it was just UNGODLY. I cannot BELIEVE that Mary Mace is already SIX! It seems like no time at all since she was born. And now she's a big sister. Spring and Fall rule. Ah, yes, the promise. And I don't mean the Sweet Potato Queens' promise. LOL. Wishing you a wonderful visit to Chattanooga. And in early December, it shouldn't even be too cold. Happy Monday!:)

I'm not so big on harvesting, Pugsley. I depend on other people to do that and then get it to the supermarket for me. I have NO problem, however, with how they do it. And if it includes human sacrifice and very interesting fertility rites, why, that's perfectly okay with me.;)

Here in the mountains of Lilliput the leaves are already beginning to turn. I am looking forward to making some sweet potato pie!

Yum-yum, NYD. Save a piece of that sweet potato pie for me. With whipped cream, please.:)

I have to laff...*snort*...late spring/early summer is my storm chase time, fall is my football time, and the rest is...useless parts of the calendar ;)

So, Skunk, that makes you a ... Sprall man. I agree; who needs the rest of the calendar?:)
