Random, Wandering Thoughts on a Saturday

Meandering, dream-induced thought --

Remember young Dorothy mumbling "There's no place like home"?

Thomas Wolfe said (and wrote), "You can't go home again."

Robert Frost said you could. Sort of. "Home is the place where, when you have to go there, they have to take you in."

Wolfe was probably closer to the mark, I think. Things are always in a state of flux. Things change. Home changes. When one tries to go back to a place or a person or a thing well loved but long gone, searching perhaps for a state of mind or a sense of secure tranquility once enjoyed, it's never the same. It's never again going to be what was, that which is so fondly remembered, no matter how badly one longs to recapture it. It can't be, for it goes against the natural order of things. We all have cherished memories. We hold them close to our hearts and we know they're there when we need them. To try to regain them in any corporeal sense, however, would be a quest in futility. It's sad, but it's life. It's physics. It's true.

Bring out the memories as the need arises. Hold them close, revel in them. Let them comfort you. But it's never wise to try and live in the past. Embrace the present, make new memories, and let them carry you where they will.

I don't know whether to laugh or be outraged about my spam offerings. Very few slip through the filters in my regular e-mail. One did today, though. Somebody wanted to sell me soft Viagra. Soft Viagra? Wouldn't that be, like, the anti-Viagra?

G-mail spam filters, on the other hand, seem to be pretty much useless. I logged on today for the first time in over a week and found 116 spam messages, all wanting to sell me either drugs, watches, or college degrees. Sheesh. You have to look at the entire list before deleting, because you never know when something that's not actually spam might get mischaracterized. Clearly, the filters are not infallible.

The Words Gone Wild gang doesn't break for the weekend, that's for sure. These ruffians were captured today.

sensor that thread - We sense that that author should be gagged.

Collared by my sidekick, Roxan:

Looking for a agent to sell my manuel script - Obviously, someone has written (and wishes to pitch) a screenplay about a guy named Manuel.

toomorow - Yes, I suppose the morrow will come, too.

refelction - Shorthand for a refereed election.

canceptual - An illicit, Tequila-inspired conception which occurred in Cancun.
