Green Cuteness

Coming down the stairs with the dog yesterday morning, this amazing specimen of a fellow clinging to the wall immediately caught my eye.



It's hard to tell from the photo, but he was a good 4 inches long and much greener than he looks here. Thank goodness the dog didn't notice him. She'd probably have tried to eat him. I think it's probably mondo bad luck or something to eat a praying mantis. We don't need that. Plus, he's too cute to meet such an ignominious end.

Predictably, Friday has rolled around once again. You can't fight it, even if you wanted to. All you can do is enjoy it. TGIF!

R.I.P.

Phyllis Diller died yesterday. She's been around ever since I can remember. Well, I guess -- she was 95 years old. I knew she was old, but I didn't realize she was that old.

Scott McKenzie has also died. Some of you are too young to have any idea who he was. Shoot, I'm barely old enough myself. I still hear his anthem song on the radio every now and then, though, and recognize it.



I spent much of the weekend doing research and drafting stuff for baby lawyer. Finished up and it got faxed off to the court yesterday. It would be great if this led to regular employment, but still ... I just don't know. Time (and paying clients) will tell.

This is not my dog. My dog continues to evade the dreaded bath. She continues to be -- well, stinky. The bath could happen today. We'll see. I have to go get some groceries. Maybe I'll wash her when I get back, assuming I've procured the perfect junk food with which to reward myself. And dog treats for the smelly girl, of course.

Work Is Good!

I have a lunch meeting today (which supersedes the meeting scheduled for tomorrow). The lawyer I'm working with got in a new case in which there's an emergency hearing late next week and he wants me working on information gathering, etc. This will keep me busy (and billing) for the next week. There's still the divorce case to work on as well. I'm excited about staying busy doing what I do best -- and the prospect of making this permanent since baby lawyer says business is really picking up. Lord knows, I'm sick of fixing and washing blinds and vacuuming and loading and unloading the dishwasher. And I never thought I'd say this, but I'm getting sick of reading.

Oh, and no, the dog still hasn't been washed. Maybe tomorrow.

Hump Day Minutiae

I have stuff I must do today and stuff I should do. Chances are I'll do some of it and procrastinate over the rest. One thing I have to do is try to figure out how to fix my vertical blinds. A few of the little clasps have gotten twisted, resulting in gaps. Either I fix it somehow, or I buy a new set. The problem with that is that I can't haul the box with the new set up the stairs by myself. Once I get it inside, I could probably figure out how to install the new hardware. Or at least give it a hell of a jerry-rigging. I don't want to, but somebody's got to do it.

I should wash the dog today; she's not smelling so good. That may be one of the items I don't procrastinate on. I'm not keen on smelly things.

I've done one project for the new lawyer I mentioned a while back. We're meeting again Friday to discuss strategy on a divorce case. Clearly, I need more work than this, especially since Crazy Ex-Boss Lady hasn't had anything for me lately, but every little bit helps. Plus, I'm getting really, really bored and the poor dog can stand only so much washing.

I've got to go do some stuff this morning. I could just as easily have done it yesterday, or do it tomorrow. I guess I'll get it done today, though. Nothing strenuous, so I doubt I'll be humpbacked or ringing any bells when I get back.

Um, I'm sure Quasimodo was a real nice guy, but he wasn't exactly Magic Mike material.

Thoughts On A Tuesday

Wild Moon

The above fact may be true and it may be complete and utter BS. What I know for true is that last night's full moon (for once) didn't make me crazy. It made me hungry. All day long Wednesday and Thursday, I felt starved. I ate junk food. Of course, I did! I don't think I overdid it, though. I did see the moon out my window last night, and it was gorgeous. It actually felt kind of strange to see a full moon and not feel like I had a raging case of PMS or something. But I'll take it.

And ... here we are on a magnificent Friday. TGIF!
