Troll Bait and Blown Neurons
***To All My Friendly Readers: Because of someone I don't even know having decided to troll my site simply because I know someone else he doesn't like (what is he, 12?), I've had to enable Comment Moderation. I don't like it, and I know you don't like it, and I apologize for the inconvenience. Unfortunately, without the moderation in place, I'm afraid the unwanted, spam-like comments would pile up pretty fast. For now, it just is what it is. I'm sorry.
Now then -- I've got the fever. Writing fever. I've been kicking around a story line for over a year. Today, suddenly like a bolt out of the blue, I got hit with the urge to start writing it. Now. And you know what happens when you get an urge. You have to run with it, and I mean run with it, because you'll never have a moment's peace 'til you do.
I'm ready to just do it, and I could probably have gone at least the first two chapters today. But -- and here's the kicker. I can't find my notes!
Like I said, I've been plotting this out for over a year -- not only in my head, but with notes. It's never a good idea for me to consign anything solely to my head. Memory is too unreliable. My synapses get overloaded and they're apt to start misfiring. Some hot new tidbit comes along, and whatever was in the memory banks is out the window. So I made notes as I went along, in an actual notebook. Those notes are crucial. They contain geographical information, pieces of the plot, legal points that are going to bail out my characters and, most importantly, my characters' names. I have no memory whatsoever of what their names are supposed to be!
I'm sure I stashed that notebook somewhere where I'd be able to readily put my hands on it, somewhere I wouldn't forget. And now I can't find it. I have eight more rooms full of closets and drawers to search. I know it's here. Somewhere. And I'm not going to bed tonight until I find it. This is putting a serious crimp in my fever to knock out those first few pages today. I guess I'll just have to think about that tomorrow.
